High’s And Low’s: NXT TakeOver Stand And Deliver Night One

Last night was night three of WrestleMania week. It was also Night One of NXT Takeover’s Stand And Deliver Pay Per View event. We had five matches that were shown on the USA network last night. In my opinion last night’s event was a must watch event. I think night two overall has the bigger feuds on it and obviously they want it on Peacock so the fans will buy Peacock to watch it. For Night One though it lived up to the hype and then some last night. Three title matches last night, and they were all fantastic. With that being said here are my highs and lows from NXT TakeOver Stand and Deliver Night One.

High: Walter vs Tommaso Ciampa

This was the HIGHLIGHT of the night last night. The fact that this match was on cable television last night was insane. It was a match that wrestling fans didn’t know they needed to see, but were damn grateful that they saw it. The two men traded blows the entire night, and gave us the false hope that we would see Walter drop the NXT UK Title at one point. Walter has probably the hardest chop out of any wrestler that I have ever seen. With the sound of impact that we hear with each chop is ridiculous.

People won’t be a fan of the ending of course, but Walter hits that hard with that chop. Also with Walter dropping Ciampa right on his neck and then coming up and hitting him with that hard of a chop you know that’s a great finish. There was so much intensity in this match, and it made Walter who has been so dominant in the UK look human at times. I am hoping this will be the start of more Walter wrestling in the states because he is very good, and having him as a future NXT champion would be ideal in my eyes.

Low: Dexter Lumis’ Use

Dexter Lumis was a popular pick on the latest episode of Suplex Biddies which the links to that episode will be below. He has been feuding with Gargano and the way for months now and we thought this would be the time we see them finally face off. Boy were we wrong on that one. Lumis had a faceoff with LA Knight that got interrupted by Cameron Grimes. Dexter put Grimes in his finisher the silence, and as he did that LA Knight rolled up Lumis and pinned him for a three count. LA Knight taunts him and then proceeds to get eliminated less than a minute later.

I wish we saw more as Lumis is a great up and coming superstar for the black and gold brand. Also I am taking nothing away from the winner last night Bronson Reed. Reed looks to be their next big project and him vs Gargano for the NXT North American Title is going to be a banger tonight. Bronson Reed looks like he is getting the push that we saw Keith Lee get last year. Watch out for the name Bronson Reed as he looks to be NXT’s next big thing.

High: Triple Threat Tag Team Championship Match

NXT is really good when it comes to tag team wrestling. Last night was the perfect example for it. The NXT Tag Titles were vacated due to the injury of Danny Burch. So they put the teams that have had a rivalry since the Dusty Cup Final be apart of it as well as Legado Del Fantasama. MSK vs Grizzled Young Veterans vs Legado Del Fantasma went well beyond my expectations last night. This was the co-main event of night one, and it was an absolute fantastic match. At times you had no idea what team was going to win this match. At the end though with MSK hitting their finisher on the Grizzled Young Veterans makes me believe that the rivalry between the two is over. Wes Lee and Nash Carter are your new NXT Tag Team Champions, and boy are they going to be good.

Low: Amount Of Time The NXT Women’s Title Match Had:

The NXT Women’s Title Match between Io Shrari and Raquel Gonzalez was fantastic at every moment. My only issue is that I wish it had gotten more time than it did. It went under 16 minutes long, and even at that time was it a fantastic match. In my opinion it could have been a lot better if it lasted ten minutes longer. I understand due to being on network television it is tough to even out the time, but both women deserved the time.

I loved the fact that this was the main event, it deserving so was the main event. Raquel Gonzalez is dominating the women’s division and now is the NXT Women’s Champion. This was a great match, and I don’t think this feud is close to being over. The era of Raquel has begun, and if I know NXT like I think I know NXT she will be a champion for a very long time. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Gonzalez’s title reign, I just wish her and Shirai got more time last night.

Final Thoughts:

I give night one of NXT TakeOver Stand and Deliver a 8.5/10. A couple things could have been better, but the show was great. I can’t wait to see what night two has in store for us. If you haven’t yet make sure you have a Peacock account for this PPV. This is a must watch in my opinion as every match looks like it is going to be an absolute top notch match. In case you haven’t seen the card for night two yet, here it is.

Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart (C) vs The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) (NXT WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP)

Jordan Devlin (C) vs Santos Escobar (Interim Champ) (Ladder Match to determine undisputed NXT CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION)

Johnny Gargano (C) vs Bronson Reed (NXT NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP)

Adam Cole vs Kyle O’Reilly (Unsanctioned Match)

Finn Balor (C) vs Karrion Kross (NXT CHAMPIONSHIP)
