Don Granato Stays in Buffalo

Don Granato will get his interim tag removed and will remain as head coach for the Buffalo Sabres. Darren Dreger of TSN was the first to report it as you can see in the tweet above. Talks were heating up the last couple of weeks and it was reported that the choices were down to Granato and Rick Tocchet. Granato was hired as interim head coach back in March after former head coach Ralph Krueger was fired.

According to Wikipedia, Granato’s record last season was 9-16-3 in 28 games coached. I know the record isn’t desirable but with how bad the team was under Krueger, Granato’s system was more enjoyable to watch.

My Reaction to Don Granato Staying with the Buffalo Sabres

I’m good with this hire. I’ve said it my recent articles that I wanted Bruce Boudreau. He has tons of experience when it comes to coaching and knows what it takes to make the playoffs. On top of that, he is also a Stanley Cup champion. I will say this though, I love Granato. As I mentioned earlier, the players seem to love him and he was popular amongst the fanbase as well. I don’t like to jump to conclusions because I thought Krueger was a good hire and I was wrong about that. We’ll see what happens but I like this hire for the Sabres.
