Golden Knights, Two Weeks Away From Playoffs
On Saturday evening, April 16, Logan Thompson started in net for the Golden Knights. VGK put up a good fight against the Edmonton Oilers, but EDM seemed to be everywhere all at once. VGK lost in regulation, 4-0 shutout, making Golden Knight’s chances for a playoff position less attainable, but not unachievable.
Games that could have positively impacted VGK:
For VGK to have had an easier come back into the playoffs, Los Angeles Kings had to lose their game against Colombus Blue Jackets. LAK won 2-1, during regulation taking them to 90 points in the standings.
Given San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks’s winning stats , NSH won in regulation 4-3, and DAL won in regulation 2-1. If either team would have lost, they would have been VGK’s competition into the wild card spot. Now both teams sit in the same standings with a 26 point difference.
Options for Vegas
VGK is still at a disadvantage due to having played one more game than NSH and DAL, but are at an advantage having played one less game than LAK. NSH still has seven games left and six of those games are against teams with higher winning scores.
Whereas, it is the opposite for DAL and LAK. DAL and LAK both have a lead at winning most of their last few games, because of their opposing team’s low winning scores.
Nashville losses could result into the Golden Knights way of entering the wild card spot, but at this point, anything can happen with any team regardless of winning history.
Playoffs are two weeks away and the best way to securing a playoff spot is by winning.
