Vegas Golden Knights Player Profile: Logan Thompson

This season Vegas Golden Knights had to answer the question what are they going to do without Marc-Andre Fleury? Lehner was named starter with Brossoit serving as backup. But like all other positions on the Golden Knights the goalies also got hit by the injury roulette wheel. Brossoit is currently on IR and Lehner had spent some time on there as well. During this time an unexpected goalie took place that is Logan Thompson. Who exactly is Logan Thompson? This article will give you a Vegas Golden Knights player profile on Logan Thompson.

Logan Thompson Profile Hockey Beginnings

Logan Thompson player profile aka his hockey career begins in his hometown of Calgary with junior hockey. But his career in hockey starts in 2014 with Alberta’s Junior Hockey League with the Grande Prairie Storm. Thompson spent a season here posting a .906% save percentage and 3.08 goals against average. Although his teams record was not impressive, it was enough for him to get a look from the Western Hockey League.

Western Hockey League

As mentioned above Thompson got a look into the WHL. In fact the same season he spent with Grande Prairie Storm, he played 4 games for Brandon Wheat Kings. First off what a name for a team. Second he ended up winning 3 of those 4 games he played in. Thompson would go on to stay with the Brandon Wheat Kings through their 2017-2018 season. During those years with the Wheat Kings he had a .89% save percentage and playing in 122 games. Before making a brief stint in university hockey for a season for the Brock Badgers. He was named Ontario University Athletics Rookie of the Year, Goaltender of the Year and was named to the league’s First All-Star Team.

Eastern Conference Hockey League

During that stint of college hockey Thompson went on to play two seasons in the ECHL. He played for the Adirondack Thunder in 2018-2019 only appearing in 8 games (probably due to college hockey). The following season in May 2019 he signed a contract with AHL team Hershey Bears, but actually played for their ECHL affiliate South Carolina Stingrays. He played 32 games and recorded a .929% save percentage.

Logan Thompson Signs with Vegas Golden Knights

Logan Thompson gets his first official nod in the NHL by signing a 2 year entry level contract on July 13, 2020. It is important to note Thompson was in fact not drafted but an undrafted signing. He has started from the bottom and worked his way up to the top literally.

Henderson Silver Knights 2020-2021

After signing his contact he started the 2021 season with Golden Knights AHL affiliate the Henderson Silver Knights. Thompson excelled being the AHL starter. He won Goaltender of the month for both February and March. Not only that he ended up making the AHL All-Rookie and Pacific Division All Star Teams. The 2020- 2021 season the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award given to the best AHL goaltending was awarded to Thompson. He had a very impressive .943 save percentage.

Logan Thompson this season

Thompson starting in net for the Vegas Golden Knights was a phrase first heard this season. Logan Thompson chalked on his player profile his first official NHL start January 4, 2022 where he stopped 23 of 26 shots against the Nashville Predators. The Golden Knights on January 30th re-signed Thompson to a 3 year, $2.3 million contract extension. Due to the injury roulette wheel, Thompson was back in net by February 20th against the San Jose Sharks this was also his first NHL win. A little over a month later March 30, 2022 Thompson recorded his first NHL shutout against the Kraken winning 3-0.

So far this season Thompson is 8-5, he has a 2.55 Goals Against Average, and a .922 save percentage. His most impressive game in my opinion came this week April 14th where he got the start against the Calgary Flames. This game was in his hometown of Calgary and what did he do? Well he stopped an impressive 35 shots against a really hot NHL team (no pun intended since they are the Flames). This led to a .972 save percentage and a huge 2 points Vegas needed while still in the hunt for the playoffs.

Logan Thompson Player Opinion

Fans are jumping on the Thompson train and I am not exception. Obviously we know that Lehner has the starting job but in the relief/secondary department Thompson is making a name for himself in an interview Thompson said the following:

“I know what it’s like to get passed over and told you’re not good enough, so I just want to be there when anyone needs anything and just kind of be that voice and hopefully that role model for people going through the same thing,” the 25-year-old said. “I’ve kind of been through the wringer, played in almost every league, and I get it. It’s a grind. It’s not easy.”

Well Thompson the fans are speaking TRADE THOSE SILVER PADS IN FOR SOME GOLD PADS.
