Fred’s Week 2 Power Rankings

Weekly Update

The first week of football is over and as fans we are all excited about the fantastic approach the league has taken to push through the pandemic. Each Thursday we will be reviewing in detail my Power Rankings as the season goes on. As we go through the list I will make sure to note where the team was ranked for my Preseason Top 10. Make sure to follow me on Twitter at @FOBSportsNFL for weekly articles and information.

1.) Kansas City Chiefs (Preseason #1)

The Super Bowl Champs are well, still the Super Bowl Champs. With an easy victory over the Texans last Thursday night they are the clear cut favorite to repeat this year and win the Super Bowl. Mahomes is still a stud, Hill and Kelce still remain two of the most elite weapons in the league. The addition of Clyde Edwards Helaire is only going to make the passing game that much more dangerous as the season goes on.

2.) Baltimore Ravens (Preseason #2)

Lamar Jackson got better? Yes, he did. Lamar was able to focus more on his passing attack and light up the scoreboard against the division rival Browns. He will run when he needs to but JK Dobbins and Mark Ingram can take the load off of Lamar’s legs as he looks to repeat as the MVP of the league. Impressive showing by the defense to eliminate OBJ from the Browns offensive game plan. Especially without their best defensive player from last year in Earl Thomas.

3.) New Orleans Saints (Preseason #4)

The New Orleans Saints put a big screech to the Tampa Bay bandwagon tires. The Saints looked like the team we know and put the game away early in the third after a pick six to give them the 24-7 lead. I think the Saints will cruise to another victory this Monday night against the Oakland Raiders and remain a top five NFL team start to finish in their 2020 campaign.

4.) Green Bay Packers (Preseason #5)

Scoring 43 points on the Minnesota defense is not an easy task. Davante Adams continues to cement himself as a top five receiver in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers got all the motivation he needed when the franchise spent their 2020 first round pick on a Quarterback. Packers are in the drivers seat to win the NFC North.

5.) Seattle Seahawks (Preseason #6)

Russell Wilson continues to be an MVP candidate in the league year after year. Look for the hawks to win their home opener this Sunday night and move to 2-0. After a slip of the 49ers, Seattle should end up winning the division unless the Cardinals continue to mesh as an up and coming franchise. Jamal Adams had a phenomenal first game in a Seahawks uniform.

6.) Buffalo Bills (Preseason #7)

Buffalo won a lopsided week one game over the New York Jets. The Bills have to wait till week three to get a test as they go up against the poor Miami Dolphins this week. Buffalo will improve to 2-0 and is my favorite to win the AFC East. Stefon Diggs and Allen will continue to establish rapport as the season goes on.

7.) San Francisco (Preseason #3)

San Francisco took the biggest fall from the Preseason rankings to this weeks list. A season opener loss will do exactly that. However, I am not ready to write off the 2019 NFC Champs. Look for a big bounce this weekend as they play the very talent less New York Jets.

8.) Tennessee Titans (Preseason #8)

If the kicking game was even somewhat acceptable they get out of Denver on Monday night with a double digit win. The addition of Jadeveon Clowney showed early in the game as he continues to be one of the most explosive defense play makers in the game. They are currently the front runners to win the AFC South after the Texans lost on opening night.

9.) Pittsburgh Steelers (Preseason N/A)

The best defense in football. Bud Dupree and T.J. Watt are going to make offensive lineman have nightmares. Big Ben looked great in his first game back since elbow surgery. If Snell can run the rock like he did on Monday night, this team can go toe to toe with the Ravens for the division.

10.) Los Angeles Rams (Preseason N/A)

Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey add some spark to this team that can potentially get them back to their 2018 playoff form. A win at their new stadium this past Sunday night over the Cowboys was impressive to say the least. Let’s see how they look when they travel to Philadelphia and play the Eagles this weekend.

Who got cut?

My Preseason Power Rankings had the Eagles coming in at #9 and the Buccaneers coming in at #10. Both of these teams have respectfully dropped out of the Top 10. The Eagles seem to once again be facing an injury riddled year just like 2019. The Buccaneers still have top 10 potential, but it will take some time for the chemistry to sync in down in Tampa Bay. I refuse to fade Brady unless the penalties and timing with his receivers continue to be a problem.
