Filling Gaps for the Patriots on Offense

The NFL has announced that they will join the virtual world after all and host the 2020 NFL Draft remotely. The Patriots have had some holes on offense that the team should look at filling sooner rather than later. Aside from the obvious, the Patriots should look into filling the gaps at tight end and wide receiver. An injury to his ankle kept wide receiver N’Keal Harry sidelined for half of his rookie season. Ben Watson retiring left a bigger hole at tight end that should be addressed in the draft.

I hope the draft class uses a Vegas zoom background

The Patriots scheduled first pick is an “early” one this year with the 23rd pick. The Patriots should hope to be able to take at least one of these options. Preferably all of them but we don’t live in my ideal world.

Potential Tight Ends:

Thaddeus Moss- LSU- Moss stands 6’3” and weighs in at 249 lbs. He ended his 2019 college season with 47 receptions for 570 yards and 4 touchdowns. A pretty good season for the junior. Smaller than beloved Rob Gronkowski, but where he lacks in size he makes up for in quickness. A potential drawback for Moss is that he’d always have his dad attached to him in the eyes of the fans.

Adam Trautman- Dayton- Trautman is taller than Moss, standing 6’5” but weighs in at only 251 lbs. If he could bulk up and utilize his size, he could be a good fit to fill in the revolving tight end door in New England.

Potential Wide Receivers:

Henry Ruggs III- Alabama- Ruggs finished the 2019 season with 40 catches for 746 yards. He stands just under the six-foot mark at 5’11” and weighs in at 188 lbs. At the combine he showed off his speed clocking a 4.27 40 time. He’s a great route runner and could take some pressure off Edelman on quick slants or open up down the field.

Jerry Jeudy- Alabama- Jeudy is another quick potential pick at WR, he clocked in his 40 time at 4.45. Standing at 6’1” and just 193 lbs. At the end of his 2019 season with Alabama, he caught 77 passes for 1,163 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s hard for corners to keep up with every play; in his final 28 games he ended up in the end zone 24 times. He’s proven to be able to make the big plays while also holding his blocks for his teammates when he’s asked to.
