Fantasy Football Preview: Cowboys vs Chargers

Week 2 of fantasy football has begun! We saw yet another exciting Thursday Night game against the Football Team vs Giants. However this article will focus on another NFC East team, as they compete against a AFC west team. I’m talking my fantasy football preview Cowboys vs Chargers.

Must Start

Dak Prescott QB Cowboys

Dak Prescott's passing record not benefiting Dallas Cowboys | Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Dak is Back! He came out last week with a stellar TNF performance. With a longer break between games he has had time to rest up to yet throw again. In week 1 Prescott threw for 403 yards and 3 TD’s. He did also have an interception however that did not effect his fantasy value. Dak finished with 27.42 fantasy points and well enough to rank as QB 6 for my NFL league. I expect Dak to stay in the top 10 QB’s this week, as well as throw around 300 yards. Expect multiple TD’s this game. It will be a shootout. Dak has the most pass attempts per game since 2020, Justin Herbert has the 2nd most.

Others to Consider Playing

Mike Williams WR Chargers

Chargers' highly paid WR Mike Williams has room to improve - Los Angeles Times

Mike Williams came out impressive week 1 against the Football Team. In this game he had 12 targets. Of those targets he caught 8 passes for 82 yards and a TD. This performance earned him a WR ranking of 16. The Cowboys defense in week 1 was not good at protecting against the pass, and honestly is not as good of a defense as the Football Team, especially with the loss of Demarcus Lawrence. Expect the Chargers to take advantage of this. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen could both possibly end in the top 15 for WR’s this week, but I think just like last week Williams has the better performance of the two. Expect him to again score a TD and have over 50 receiving yards. I personally have him in as my Flex this week, but he is good enough to be a WR 2.

Ceedee Lamb/Amari Cooper WR’s Cowboys

Watch out for Cowboys' Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb

Week 1 had both of these receivers ending up in the top 15 for fantasy football WR production. If you have either on your team chances are you are starting them. But why am I covering them on my consider? Because you do not know which WR will end up being the WR 1 in production for the Cowboys weekly. Last week it was Cooper who caught 13 of his 16 targets, but Lamb had 15 targets and only caught 7 of them. Again in the stats Cooper had 2 TD’s where Lamb only had 1. Moral of the story both players are good. Especially in what I think will be a shootout of a game. Expect this duo to repeat a top 15 WR performance and each to have a TD. But this week I predict Lamb edging out Cooper in productivity. Plug these two in for a WR 1 or WR 2 spot.

Avoid

Austin Ekeler RB Chargers

Austin Ekeler Fantasy Injury: Add Justin Jackson & These Other RBs As Waiver Wire Pickups

People may look at this pick and think why are you choosing Ekeler to avoid? The answer is simple this game is going to be pass heavy and last week Ekeler was only used for the run, he also has a lingering hamstring issue. Although it did not tamper his ability week 1, he was not a target once on 24 routes against the Football Team. I imagine with the up in receiving usage that is productivity decreases. Last week he recorded 57 yards and a TD. This week he will not see a TD. I look at him having a week like Zeke did week 1 with barely any productivity. Keep in mind this is a bold take. Do not play him as a RB 1 or RB 2 this week. I find him out of the top 30 this week for RB’s.

Last Thoughts on Players

As you can tell by my picks I expect this Cowboys vs Chargers game to be very pass heavy. Justin Herbert I expect to also have a good game and would start him. Other wide receivers I haven’t mentioned Chargers Keenan Allen (a must start WR 1 or WR 2), and Cedrick Wilson (a possible Flex). As for the TE’s I personally picked up TE Jared Cook off waiver wire to start, but I would sit Jarwin from the Cowboys. Running game wise expect Zeke to have some more productivity this week then last (enough for a RB 2) but again this will be an in the air battle.

This game is going to be a close matchup. Analytics expert Cynthia Frelud has the Cowboys winning in 51.2% of her simulations with a projected final score of 29-27. This game I believe will be a one possession game win for the Dallas Cowboys. But as far as Cowboys vs Chargers fantasy production goes this game is all about QB’s and WR’s.
