Fantasy Football: Patriots Players In Fantasy Waivers to Claim!

The NFL season is quickly approaching and so is the start to most fantasy football leagues out there.

Last week, I gave some suggestions on waiver wire pickups to keep an eye on. Well, in the upcoming weeks I am going to start choosing players from random teams to pick up at the fantasy waivers and this week I am starting with the New England Patriots.

2021 NFL Draft first round pick by the Patriots, Mac Jones!

The battle for the QB1 position in New England is well underway as training camp continues. Some say that the clear winner is Mac Jones given some of the stuff he’s brought thus far at training camp. Meanwhile, others are saying it is clearly Cam. I personally went to training camp a coupe weeks ago and what I saw from Cam Newton was unlike anything he displayed last season. In my opinion, the QB1 job is Newton’s at the moment. However, should injury or an unfortunate lack of good performances hamper Newton’s season, Mac is the guy to keep an eye on.

Mac Jones during the offseason has been able to train and fully learn the playbook here in New England. He will also be able to have target options, something that many are excited about this year in New England. Especially, as signings like Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry boost their offensive line.

Wide Receivers To Claim in Waivers!

N'Keal Harry has requested a trade, according to his agent Former NFL receiver says Patriots' Kendrick Bourne will break out in 2021

Speaking of having attended to training camp, there were two other guys I was happy to see improve. Those two being N’Keal Harry and Kendrick Bourne.

Kendrick Bourne joined New England during the free-agency window and has been an amazing fit with the organization. Many believe that Bourne will easily be a WR3 maybe even WR2 option for New England and I personally think Bourne will be the second best receiving option this year for the Patriots.

Bourne in his time with the 49ers was a great alternative for Garoppolo and Mullens when needed. Last year, he recorded 49- REC, 667 yards, 2 TD’s. Now that he’s made the move to New England, expect Cam or Mac Jones to target him multiple times and for him to be a producer offensively for the Patriots. He would be a great fantasy waivers’ pickup if available.

N’Keal Harry on the other hand, what a massive improvement we’ve seen from the 23-year old out of Arizona State this offseason. Harry, who requested a trade during training camp has been showing largely in training and putting performances that remind people of the draft pick selected by Belichick, increasing his trade value especially after a bad season last year where production wasn’t there for him. With this years’ team, I do see and expect a different N’Keal Harry. One that will be recharged and reinvigorated who could quietly become a top producer for this offense.

Bonus Patriots Players to Claim in Waivers!

Besides the aforementioned, there are two other names in this Patriots team that I think will be low-key great additions to most fantasy football teams at any given point throughout the season.

Those two names are the following:

Damien Harris (RB): Here is a name that I think will fall through the cracks as most people pick their running backs for their teams. Damien Harris was a great option for Belichick last year in the running game. Harris recorded last year 691 yards and 2 TD’s. However, this year he could become Belichick’s best option at RB. Maybe we will see Sony Michel and Damien Harris be utilized equally in the back of this offensive line.

Nelson Agholor (WR): If Nelson is available in the fantasy waivers list on your league, grab him immediately! Here’s why. Nelson Agholor has been SENSATIONAL at training camp for the Patriots and will arguably be the primary option at wide-receiver for either Cam or Mac. He has been showing his quickness and many reasons why Bill went out and got him during the free agency window.

Last year while with the Raiders, Agholor was a deep threat for Las Vegas! Last year, he recorded 48 REC, 896 Yds, and 8 TD’s. As the Patriots adjust their playbook and are without Julien Edelman this year, expect Agholor to be a huge need for this Patriots OL especially if Jonnu or Hunter Henry aren’t open. Agholor will be a huge threat for New England with his speed and agility. In terms of deep threat, he will be a concern for most defenses to cover.
