Fantasy Football: Dolphins vs. Patriots fantasy preview!
Fantasy football leagues are officially underway! The start of the NFL season is here and for those who drafted Miami or New England players, I am here to give you a quick Dolphins vs. Patriots fantasy preview in order to help you make some last minute decisions.
I will be sharing with you key players on both teams, and dark horse picks that could be of help fantasy league wise. Let’s get started!
Tua vs. Mac – Dolphins vs. Patriots QB Preview!

Oh yes, time for a showdown between the two ex-Alabama starting QB’s to open up the NFL Season.
In one hand, Tua is coming into his second NFL season and now as the undisputed starter for Miami. Last season, Tua for many he wasn’t as impressive as thought of. One thing people failed to realize, is the factor that Ryan Fitzpatrick was still very much involved and therefore any tough to develop as strongly as most hoped for. While the expectations for Tua in this second year are low, this week gives a clear chance for Tua to prove whether he’s a bust or boom as a pick for Miami. It is also helpful that Tua will count with the WR services from his ex-teammate, Jaylen Waddle as a familiar face.
My expectations for Tua in this match up are a production combination of: 250-280 Yards, 2 TD’s, 1-2 INT and a sack. New England’s defense will be a headache for Tua to deal with. Anyway, for most PPR leagues, this is about 14-18 Points.
On the flipside, Mac Jones has a great spotlight on him and rightfully deserved. The 15th overall by the New England Patriots was impressive this summer and his performance was sufficient enough to result in Cam Newton’s release.
With a New England Patriots team who has also reloaded this offseason offensively, you can expect Mac Jones to be more of throwing QB than a running QB this year. My expectations for Mac in this matchup, would be a production combo of: 240-260 yards, 2 TD’s and a potential INT. For most PPR leagues, this is about 15-24 Points.
Dolphins’ Fantasy Key Players!
As we continue with this Dolphins vs. Patriots preview, there are a couple of key players I see being big for Miami in week 1.
- Myles Gaskin – RB:
- Gaskin’s usage last year especially towards the end of it was high! If you are a big waivers claim person, then you know his usage felt like he was Miami’s RB2 option. This year, a lot remains to be seen for Miami. However, I expect Myles to see some runs where he could have a production night of 50-60 rushing yards and a 1 rushing TD. Looking at a solid flex option for the potential of 12 points in PPR leagues.
- Mike Gesicki – TE:
- Another heavily utilized target last year by offensive coordinator, Chan Gailey. Coming up against a New England defense, where that may be your only route? Yeah, Gesicki could be poised for as low as 10 points to as high as 22 if Tua and offensive coordinator play their cards right.
Preview Of Some Key Patriots Players!
Besides the aforementioned Mac Jones and the Patriots Defense, there are a couple of Patriots players that I see contributing in a big way this week.
Here are my key players for this patriots as we continue this Dolphins vs. Patriots preview:
- Damien Harris – RB:
- Now that Sony Michel has been traded, expect Harris to do a lot of the RB game for New England. Additionally, Cam Newton is no longer in the team and you can easily expect for Harris to take care of that business, for New England. If you drafted him in your fantasy league, he is a solid choice to flex with or potentially use as an RB2 depending on how many people are in your league.
- Jonnu Smith – TE:
- The Tight-End party is back in New England this season! You can expect and rest assure that the Tight-End game will be utilized by New England in this matchup. The Dolphins Defense struggles against the TE position and with someone as physical as Jonnu, expect him to get plenty of targets. Personally, I see him getting targeted 5 times, having 35-45 Yards and potentially a TD. For most PPR leagues, if you drafted him, he should be your TE1 option. Unless you have Kelce or Andrews.
Dark Horse Picks – Dolphins/Patriots Offense Preview!
In this week 1 match up and Dolphins vs. Patriots preview, there are only a couple of dark horse picks I can think of.
Of course, while all depends on how this game turns out to be. So who are these “Dark horse” picks?
For New England, I am going with James White! Dolphins have a decent pair of cornerbacks, and if you need someone to suck up the passing-down work, James White is your guy! If you have a deep league of 14 people, here’s surely a decent option at the Flex position.
For Miami, I am thinking DeVante Parker. Will Fuller will not be available in week 1 and Miami will need some options. Parker is in prime position for a guy as a down the field option and depending on how deep your league is, you could consider him to be a solid WR3/Flex option in week 1.
Have fun week 1 and best of luck in this fantasy football season!
