Fantasy Football: Alexander Mattison a Week 3 must start?

If you are a fantasy owner that rosters Dalvin Cook, the news that he will not play Week 3 is worrisome to say the least. Despite Cook potentially missing Week 3 due to an ankle sprain, you can get rid of that uneasy feeling that is in the pit of your stomach. It’s time to play Cook’s backup, Alexander Mattison.

Dalvin Cook out, Alexander Mattison in?

IF, Cook is ultimately ruled out, which it is trending in that direction, Mattison presents incredible upside for the Vikings.

The Seahawks have been one of the worse teams in the NFL at allowing fantasy points to opposing running backs. In fact, the former Legion of Boom has allowed an average 42.7 fantasy points per game to the running back position.

The Seattle defense has allowed three touchdowns, on 275 rushing yards. In addition, they’ve allowed 189 receiving yards to opposing teams running backs.

Having said all of that, you should have already placed Mattison in your starting line-up.

Seriously, what are you waiting for?

Alexander Mattison provides considerable Week 3 value

Mattison has been a non-factor for the Vikings this season. Minnesota has been riding Cook over the course of the first two weeks, there hasn’t been much need for Mattison.

The 23-year-old running back has only four carries this season for 13 yards. Again, when you have Cook as RB1, you don’t need to utilize Mattison often in the running game.

The match-up against the Seahawks comes at a perfect time for perspective fantasy owners. Last season against the Seattle, Mattison ran all over them in place of Cook.

Mattison had 112 rushing yards and 24 receiving yards in their Week 5 matchup, which was one of his best performances for the 2020 season.

Conclusion

Once the official announcement is made that Cook is out and Mattison is in, he is a must start unless you are deep at running back. Odds are, most owners are not and you might grab some legit fantasy numbers from Cook’s back up.

If you are looking for a sleeper for your Draft Kings lineup this week, Mattison provides that value at $6,200.

This is a big opportunity for Mattison this week against the Seahawks. He should be able to run all over the Seahawks defense in Week 3.
