Ezekiel Elliot Needs to Get Over Jerry Jones’ Joke
If you have missed it the Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliot are in a gridlock regarding the former Ohio State star’s contract. He is one of, if not, the best tailback in the league and is in the fourth week of his holdout.
The contract situation has created plenty of anxiety for America’s team as they prepare for the 2019 regular season. Dallas has hopes of going deep into the postseason after being bounced in the Divisional Round last season. But without Elliot that challenge becomes one tough task. So if Zeke wants to get paid and the Cowboys want to win, why not just pay the man? It is a little more difficult than that (especially when it comes to running backs), but add in this drama over a Jerry Jones quip and things get even more complicated.
According to his agent, Elliot was ‘irked’ by the owner / general manager’s contract, but Elliot needs to get over himself. If anything Jones’ joke should be taken as a compliment by Zeke. The reason it’s a joke is because everyone (including Jones) knows who and how good the running back is. Jones knows that rookie Tony Pollard won’t be able to replicate Elliot’s impact just because of a few good preseason games, so Elliot is pretty much making an issue out of nothing.
Jones has responded to Elliot’s response by saying he has, ‘earned the right’, to joke with the RB and it is hard to disagree.
Threatened to sue six fellow owners. Took Roger Goodell’s compensation to task. Paid $2M in legal fees for these fights, all in service of going to the mattresses for Zeke. I’d say he’s earned the right. https://t.co/ionafrcLAm

It will be interesting to see how this saga unfolds but this little altercation throws a wrench in the idea that pen and paper will be met anytime soon.
