Its time to follow up with more of the EURO 2020 qualifiers. In this weeks’ follow up, I want to discuss the national teams that some may disregard. I am here to tell you, don’t do it just yet.
Let’s get to it!
Do NOT Disregard Belgium!
Did you know that Belgium is currently FIFA’s #1 national soccer team in the world? Do I have your attention now?
Many have overlooked past Belgium for quite a few years and others forget just how powerful this team can really be. In my opinion, Belgium could be World Cup hoisting bound.
The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Kevin DeBruyne and even Thibaut Courtois are just some of the big names this national team possesses. Versatility, quickness and physicality are all great qualities this team has!
The Checquered Ones – CROATIA!
It is that team with the cool chequered uniforms! Oh yes, and it’s also that team with what could possibly be one of the most intimidating midfield lineups in Europe. The Croatians, another team often under-minded until they strut their goods.
In Russia 2018, Luka Modric was one of the highlighting stories of the tournament. It was also then, when Croatia managed to get one of their best results in the World Cup as runner-ups and don’t be surprised if they put up a huge fight. You are looking at a stacked lineup containing people like Ivan Perisic, Mateo Kovacic, and last but not least Super Mario (Mario Mandzukic).
LOOK OUT! Flying Dutchmen!!! – Netherlands
The big ORANGE MACHINE!
One of the world’s most dangerous teams right now and one that could cause a lot of havoc in the World Cup if they qualify. Remember this piece of beauty scored in Brazil 2014?
Yup, those same exact dudes often get looked over and I don’t understand why. For Qatar 2022, if the flying Dutchmen qualify, that team will be insane. The likes of Luke and Frankie De Jong, Memphis DePay, Georginio Wijnaldum and Matthijs De Ligt could light up the world on fire with their performances.
While currently they sit at 14th place according to FIFA’s world ranking ahead of Colombia by 8 points and behind Germany by 1, this national team could potentially be a top 10 if they manage to fire on all cylinders.
As I mentioned, these are the three teams I think will be overlooked but frankly shouldn’t be. Another one that many could set the argument for would be Sweden, I just think they need a little more work. While having someone in your team the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic is huge, one has to remember age will be a factor. Another thing to remember is, this could very well be his last World Cup performance ever too.
