Druw Jones is living up to high expectations during his senior year of high school, will decide between Vanderbilt and MLB
Former Braves outfielder Andruw Jones was one of the best players in their franchise history. Jones played 12 seasons with the Braves winning 10 Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger Award and was a five time All-Star. The former defensive wiz in centerfield is hoping to land in Cooperstown in the future.
While Jones is waiting for his name to be called for Baseball’s Hall of Fame, his son is making a case to be MLB’s No.1 prospect for 2022.

The younger Jones has been tearing it up for his Wesleyan high school team in Georgia. Despite signing to play his college ball in the SEC for Vanderbilt once he graduates, Jones is the potential No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft in June.
“I’m just making sure to come out here and do whatever I can for this team,” the 6-foot-4, 180-pound center fielder said. “I don’t really care about the rankings and all the other stuff, the draft projections. Whatever helps this team is all that matters (right now). All that stuff doesn’t matter in the long run because you never know what a team is going to think eventually. You’ve just got to make sure you do whatever you can for the team.”
Druw Jones can mash at the plate just like his father

Jones plays centerfield like his dad and can mash at the dish. He is a career .435 hitter over 200 Perfect Game Tournament games.
The 18-year-old future prospect is entering his final high school season. Back on February 11, Jones went yard in his season opener. He would follow that up one week later by mashing two homers, one that went about 400 feet.

Druw Jones also pitches, will be an opener for Wesleyan
Jones is evolving as a player between his impressive play in the outfield, his powerful bat at the plate and his work on the mound. Wesleyan will continue to utilize Jones on the mound. His coach Brian Krehmeyer will use Jones as an opener and then slide him into the outfield.
“Druw and I have talked about how he knows he needs to be a pitcher for us (this spring),” Krehmeyer said to Scorebook Live. “But early in the season with the weather the way it is, we discussed that we’d have him be an opener. That way he can get himself fully warmed up, his arm loose, as opposed to being in the outfield for five or six innings, and then have to max out pitching.
“Now, as the season goes on and the weather warms up, that may change a little bit. I guess (the) Tampa Bay (Rays) made it famous with the opener. Druw is an opener for us.”
Conclusion
Jones is the best defensive centerfielder out the 2022 high school players entering the draft. According to MLB Pipeline, Jones shows “speed and instincts combine to give him tremendous range and his well above-average arm strength stands out at a position not known for many cannons. Scouts who have seen the Vanderbilt recruit take infield say he has the tools and actions to play a fine shortstop as well.”
Scouts have said he has plus speed, raw power, elite defensive skills, and a great “feel for hitting.”
The Orioles will pick first overall in this years draft and they could select Jones. This will be the second time in four years that Baltimore will select a player atop the draft. The last player picked No. 1 overall by the Orioles was catching prospect Adley Rutschman.

Jones has committed to Vanderbilt but the Orioles could lure the young star to the big leagues with the big pay day of bonus money. No matter what happens this June, Jones provides immense potential whether he opts for Vandy or MLB.
