Devin McCourty and Family Suffer Unimaginable Loss

On Saturday afternoon, Devin McCourty and his wife Michelle lost their baby girl, Mia at 31 weeks. My heart breaks for their family, I can’t imagine their pain. Michelle and Devin posted a statement on their social media accounts detailing their pain and grief.

Michelle wrote that at a doctor’s appointment the week prior, baby Mia was healthy. Suddenly the family was met with sadness as doctors would say to them that their baby no longer had a heartbeat. “We are so heart broken. We are devastated. We are speechless. We are angry. We are sad. We are confused. We are numb.”

I cannot fathom the pain of labor as it is. I especially cannot fathom that going through that pain knowing you will only hold your child for a short amount of time and planning a funeral at the same time. Michelle wrote about her faith. She called on her faith-filled friends to help her not lose her faith in God altogether.

Michelle thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers and also asked to please respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their child. “The mere thought of what happened causes instant bursts of tears at any time of day, and having to speak about it hurts tenfold.” She asked to continue sending prayers for their healing as a family and pray that they will be able to conceive again.

I will be sending my prayers for their continued healing. You and I know many women who have gone through similar scenarios, some very close to my heart. I don’t believe that people who have passed on truly ever leave us, so I believe Mia will be watching over her parents and siblings with a smile on her face as they continue to do incredible things. I will be praying that they are able to hold and raise a rainbow baby. I’ve seen the love the McCourty’s have given for the communities they are part of, I can only imagine the love they show their children.

Fly high, Mia. You will always be so loved.
