Could Conor McGregor Make His UFC Return In September?

It’s felt like years since Conor McGregor has stepped foot inside the octagon. The last time we’ve seen Mystic Mac fight in the octagon was all the way back in 2016 at UFC 205. McGregor destroyed Eddie Alvarez in two rounds making him the first fighter to hold two belts simultaneously. Fast forward to 2017, McGregor had his eyes set on Floyd Mayweather and got his biggest payday yet. The hype for the fight was epic and even though McGregor lost, his star power only rose.

Even though McGregor is still one of the biggest athletes in the world, MMA fans are losing patience waiting for McGregor to make his return to the octagon. With McGregor’s absence from the UFC a new lightweight champion has emerged by the name of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Currently 26-0 Khabib will be the biggest challenge for McGregor. We are all aware of the well known bus incident at UFC 223. McGregor and some of his training partners attacked a bus that Khabib was on, and injured two fighters who were suppose to compete at UFC 223.

The incident lead to McGregor getting into some legal trouble, and it seemed like all hope was lost for a McGregor return in 2018. That was until a couple of days ago when McGregor had his first court appearance. McGregor is currently negotiating a plea deal that could result in him making his UFC return in September.

September is also the month that the UFC will return to Madison Square Garden, which is also the biggest card of the year. There’s only one fight to headline such a big card and that is McGregor taking on Khabib for the lightweight title. Not only will it be McGregor’s return, but it will also be his biggest challenge yet. Dana White has already confirmed Khabib is next for McGregor. So lets keep our fingers cross and hope this epic fight happens in September.
