Carson Wentz Finds A New Home

Earlier today the Philadelphia Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. Philadelphia got two draft picks in return and there are rumblings around the league that Indianapolis won this trade by a wide margin. You can make the argument that this deal was perfect for both sides. I am here to give you the run down on how both teams look after this trade.

Philadelphia Eagles After The Trade:

Besides the fact that the Eagles will take on the largest dead cap hit in NFL history (33.8 million), I like this move for them. They are now all in on the Jalen Hurts train and many thought after they drafted him it was a matter of time before he took over for Wentz. Nick Sirianni looks like he has his future quarterback in Hurts, but he needs to implement a system for Hurts. Jalen looked real good in his short stint as an NFL starter last year. Although he is 1-3 as a starter, he has shown some serious potential in being Philadelphia’s guy. The Eagles in my opinion get a B for this trade. I think the Eagles grade could go up depending on how Hurts performs this season. Other than that that dead cap hit is the big thing that bothers me about that trade if I were an Eagles fan.

Indianapolis Colts After The Trade:

Frank Reich gets his new quarterback and it is a very familiar one to him. Wentz reunites with his former offensive coordinator of that Super Bowl winning Eagles team. I think we will see the old Carson Wentz with his former offensive coordinator as his new head coach. The Colts have a great defense and coming into this off season they needed a quarterback that could help them contend. Carson Wentz helped the Eagles contend before getting injured and I believed he can do the same with the Colts. Indianapolis’ offensive weapons overall are better than what Wentz had in Philadelphia. He also will play with one of the best offensive lines in football in front of him.

Indianapolis only gave up 21 sacks in 2020 and with the talent that they have on the O-Line it will create more chances for Wentz. The Eagles at time last season looked like a sinking ship with Wentz on the field. I believe now that he will have more time to throw the football, he will have his best season in the NFL. The Colts gave up only two draft picks for him with the potential of one of them being a first round pick depending on how Wentz plays this upcoming season. Indianapolis won the trade in my opinion and I give them an A for that trade right now. Will go up to an A+ when Wentz proves all his doubters wrong.

Final Thoughts:

Carson Wentz is going to thrive in Indianapolis and is going to have a career year. He could have won the MVP in 2017, before he got hurt. I think he will play up to that level this year with the weapons that he has to go along with the coach and the talented offensive line. Jalen Hurts will have Philadelphia contend with a healthy squad this year. Both sides got better, but Indianapolis is better with Carson Wentz under center.
