Carlos Beltrán Could Be Fired Before Managing His First Game
After a disappointing 2019 season in which they posted a 86-76 record, the New York Mets fired manager Mickey Callaway. To take Callaway’s place for the upcoming season and foreseeable future, the Mets hired former major league outfielder Carlos Beltrán. But unfortunately for both parties, this marriage may be short lived.
After Major League Baseball concluded its investigation on the sign-stealing of the 2017 Houston Astros, it became clear that the former Astro Beltrán participated in, and was a main contributor, in the entire process.
Note: In the first version of that tweet, I referred to Beltran as a “ringleader.” That was too strong of a word based on MLB’s report, though he is the only player named.

With this information now known, the Mets are now contemplating the future of the manager they hired this past November (according to ESPN’s Buster Olney).
It may appear that the Mets have a simple decision on their hands, but since Beltrán was a player at the time of the cheating he will not be receiving any type of suspension like A.J. Hinch, Jeff Lunhow, or Alex Cora. So how does New York do? I expect them to part ways with the nine-time all-star.
The Mets who, for most of my lifetime, have been considered an atrocious organization by most. But this situation is hard for the Mets to mess up. Both Cora and Hinch were fired from their respective positions despite the fact that the MLB has (thus far) only handed down suspension. That means that both the Houston and Boston organizations acted independently in getting rid of their skippers. They may have gotten a slight push by the commissioner’s office to do so, but both firings impose a pretty significant amount of pressure on the Mets to act. That is why I believe Beltrán’s days with New York are coming to an end before they really even started.
