Can We Please Stop the Joe Buck Hate?

Watching MLB on FOX on Saturday we all heard the recognizable voice of the multi-talented Joe Buck. Of course, with that came the Twitter hot takes. It took a whole 20 minutes for his name to be trending on Twitter. Boy oh boy were the keyboard warriors going off.

My question is, why? What makes Joe Buck so unattractive as a multi-sport commentator?

I understand the argument that he is not a good golf commentator. But, he’s a multi-award-winning play–by-play announcer on top of his soon-to-be induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. How can you hate him? In fact, I find Joe Buck to be one of the best in the business. Let me explain.

Why You Shouldn’t Hate Joe Buck

Look, it is not often you see someone as good as Joe Buck, a man who can literally do it all. Last year, Buck went from Texas–where the World Series was being held–to Philadelphia for Thursday Night Football, and then back to Texas for the rest of the World Series. That alone sounds completely exhausting, and on his part, it’s pure dedication to doing the thing he loves the most. He seems to make the broadcast better.

You look at some of the color commentators that he has had in the past, and he seems like the sole reason we listen. There are very few who like Troy Aikman and his love for Dallas. Nobody was a fan of the great Tim McCarver when he was paired with Buck. The one credible color guy that is paired with Buck today that people enjoy is Jon Smoltz. The dynamic duo of Buck and Smoltz is unmatched and is probably one of the best that I have seen. The two seem to fit each other well and make the game of baseball more exciting on an October evening during the playoffs.

Why There is Hate for Joe Buck

I completely understand why there is some hate for him, but it is at a point where it is just ridiculous now. People are pulling new ways of hate for him whenever they get a chance. The main reason for the hate seems to stem from the fact that he tends to be biased in his calls of some games. Personally, I think it is a little far-fetched, but, I have seen moments from time to time that solidify it. That being said, as a play-by-play and color commentator myself, it is tough to be totally neutral. Doing a game in front of a national audience is nerve-wracking, and whatever way you call a game you will be scrutinized one way or another, which is exactly what is happening here.

Wrap It Up

Nobody is perfect. We are all humans and we all make mistakes. So, why must we give so much hell to one guy who is doing his job, and doing it better than any of us can? In my honest opinion, he is one of the best in the industry right now. He is one I look up to when it comes to calling games and doing commentary. He makes the game of baseball sound entertaining just as his father (Jack) did all those years for the Cardinals

So, for the love of all things holy… STOP HATING ON JOE BUCK!!
