Cam Newton Was Finally Clutch When the Patriots Needed Him to Be
Cam Newton came up clutch in Monday nights win over the New York Jets. The win wasn’t pretty but it was a must win for the Patriots.
The Patriots needed Newton to lead the team back after trailing the majority of the game. The Patriots struggled to get into a rhythm in the first half. This resulted in the team needing to come from behind to beat the lowly Jets.
During the fourth-quarter, the Patriots orchestrated a nine-minute, 17 play drive that resulted in a field goal. The defense came up big when J.C. Jackson intercepted Joe Flacco. Newton would lead his offense down the field courtesy of a 31-yard connection to Damiere Byrd. Newton would take a one-yard plunge into the end zone to tie the game 27-all.
“I’m getting tired of sucking. Simple,” – Cam Newton
Newton has had a few opportunities this season to lead his team to comeback wins. He failed against Seattle, which arguably was his best game of the season. He fumbled against Buffalo which arguably was his lowest point of the season. Last night he needed to lead his squad back again the winless Jets.
The Patriots would come up big after stopping the Jets offense following their tying Newton score. After getting a first down courtesy of Newton QB sneak, he would step up. Newton would connect with WR Jakobi Meyers on a 20-yard pass. This would set the Patriots up for a potential game winning score in regulation.

With 1:03 left on the clock, the Patriots called upon Nick Folk to win the game against his former team. Folk’s kick was right down the middle and all of New England breathed a sigh of relief. The Patriots picked up a big win against a winless division rival.

Newton needed this comeback win while the team continues to grasp to their dim playoff hopes. It was nice to see the Patriots get back in the win column this week. It was equally nice to see Newton lead them back to victory. Even Lakers world champion LeBron James gave Newton some props for the win.
Helluva game @CameronNewton!!!! Big time all night long! 🙏🏾. Game winning drive to add on to it

We’re on to Baltimore
The Patriots will play the Ravens on Sunday Night Football next week. Newton will be tested against a stout Ravens defense. This is the second straight season these two teams will play on SNF. Last season, the Patriots were 8-0 when they were handed their first loss in Baltimore.
While Newton was good against the Jets, he will need to be great to beat the Ravens. The Patriots have their sights set on making the playoffs for a 12th straight season. If Newton wants to continue to be “tired of sucking”, he can shut up all his doubters with a win over the Ravens.
