Quarterback Cam Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers this past Tuesday. This leaves the former MVP looking for a new job. Newton was sidelined for most of the season last year due to a foot injury. Cam Newton has been dealing with multiple injuries in the previous couple of seasons and hasn’t been able to recover.
However, Newton has been putting in the work to get to one hundred percent healthy and is ready to prove people wrong. Obviously, the disappointment is real for Newton in the Panther’s choice to let him go. Now, he’s motivated to prove them wrong.

Now, the Patriots are going to have a new Quarterback under center for the 2020 season, and why not Cam Newton? Will this happen? Right now, more than likely not. The Patriots did just sign Quarterback Brian Hoyer for the third time. There’s also second-year Quarterback, Jarrett Stidham, who won the back-up Quarterback position last season over Hoyer.
However, I look at it this way. Coach Bill Belichick has something to prove after not bringing back Quarterback Tom Brady. Everyone knows that Belichick has a lot of pressure on him to prove to people that it wasn’t just Brady that led him to six championship titles. Newton needs to prove to people that he has recovered from his injuries and that he can still play at an MVP level.
The opportunity is there for both sides to merge and do something special. I believe this would be a good move because then, Belichick will have a little less pressure on him. If Belichick goes into the season with Stidham as his starting Quarterback and it doesn’t go well, people will quickly turn to the fact that he needs Brady to be successful. However, if Newton signs and Newton doesn’t perform at a high level, then people will look at the fact that Newton just isn’t the same player he once was. To me, it is worth the risk for Belichick because he will be giving Stidham an extra year to develop.
I say bring Newton in on a one year deal. Let him show people what he has to offer, and you coach him up. If the duo works out, then people will rave about Belichick and how great of a coach he is. If it doesn’t work, then I believe people will look at Cam Newton and how he wasn’t able to perform with one of the best coaches of all time.
