Buffalo Extends Rasmus Dahlin
On the day when NHL training camps opened up, the Buffalo Sabres got a deal done with one of their cornerstone players. The Sabres and defenseman Rasmus Dahlin agreed on a 3 year, $6 million contract extension.

All signs point to captain Jack Eichel being traded but the Sabres couldn’t afford to lose another franchise player. According to NHL.com, Dahlin played 56 games last year, scoring 5 goals and registering 18 assists in a shortened season. It’s been a tough few months for Sabres fans. Last year at the trade deadline, Buffalo traded a hopeful signing in Taylor Hall. Then they traded Sam Reinhart during the NHL Draft and lost Linus Ullmark in free agency. As I mentioned, it looks like Eichel will be the next one out of the door so bringing back Dahlin was crucial.
My Thoughts
I think this is a good contract for both sides. Buffalo was able to get to the floor when it comes to cap space and for Dahlin, it was payday. I’m surprised it was only 3 years compared to Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen who signed a 8 year, $67.6 million contract extension back in July. We’ll see how it plays out but I am so happy Dahlin got extended.
