White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodón throws a no-hitter against the Indians

There hasn’t been a Perfect Game thrown in Major League Baseball since 2012. The last time the baseball world saw a Perfect Game, Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez threw a one against the Tampa Bay Rays.

White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodón was so close to achieving that accolade and then he would let a slider hit Roberto Perez. Rodón’s pitch would clip the foot of Perez ending his perfect game bid.

Rodón’s no-hitter was the 20th in White Sox history and incredibly bittersweet for the lefty. That was the second no-hitter thrown to start this young season. Padres Joe Musgrove threw one last week in front of Padres fans at Petco Park.

He was non-tendered by the White Sox this winter and used that as motivation to be better. Rodón found that motivation and secured a spot in the White Sox rotation this spring.

The former No. 3 pick in the 2014 MLB Draft has battled injuries throughout his career. Rodon was limited to 12 starts in 2017 because of left biceps bursitis and left shoulder inflammation.

After having offseason shoulder surgery, he made 20 starts in 2018 and seven more in 2019 before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow.

20th No-Hitter in White Sox History

Rodón’s stuff was impressive all night while he was on the mound. After getting the first out in the ninth, he would face Josh Naylor. White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu would keep the then Perfect Game intact.

Unfortunately, he would then hit Perez in the foot with a slider down and in ending his Perfect Game bid.

Rodón would not let that rattle him and he would complete his no-hit bid and get Jordan Luplow to ground out to third.

Bittersweet, from non-tender to no-hitter, what a story.
