Arsenal Eyes New England Revs’ Matt Turner

According to reports and ESPN’s Taylor Twellman, who first reported the bid, Arsenal are submitting a bid for the New England Revolution and USMNT Goalkeeper, Matt Turner.

Details Regarding Arsenal’s Move For Turner!

According to sources, Arsenal are planning to mimic what Manchester City did in 2019 when they acquired Zack Steffen from the Columbus Crew.

In 2019, City made an offer for around $7 million adding incentives that totaled to around $10 Million USD.

Turner’s talent has been in full display and in 2021, he was the Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year after a phenomenal year in which the Revolution ended up winning the Supporters Shield. The opportunity here would be something Turner has largely been dreaming of for his career.

For Arsenal, this is a move that they feel is needed. Currently, they are in 6th place. Backup keeper, Bernd Leno linked for a move to Newcastle. Therefore, Turner is someone they will need and badly.

If Matt Turner decides to agree to the deal, he would become the latest MLS goalkeeper export to join the Premier League.

What’s the Plan for The New England Revs?

So here is the question we are all asking here in New England.

How will Bruce Arena replace Matt Turner? The answer is simple. For starters, MLS Veteran, Brad Knighton has also extended his contract with the Revolution. Brad Knighton was a solid option last year, especially as Turner had international duties with the US Men National Team.

In addition, The Revolution have been making moves this year and have been rather busy!

One of their first moves came as Tajon Buchanan joined Belgium’s Club Brugge at the end of the season in a deal worth $7 Million.

There is also a ton of interest currently for Polish forward talent, Adam Buksa, who could also have a decent price tag before he is moved.

With that in mind, the Revs would have enough capital to invest in bringing another talented keeper in place of Turner should he go to Arsenal.

Does Turner Make Move To Arsenal? Final Thoughts…

As a New England Revolution fan, the first thing that comes to mind is panic as Turner is essential to the success of the team.

However, watching Matt’s growth with the team and for his career has been nothing short of amazing and inspiring. Prior to New England, Turner was a college soccer keeper at Fairfield University and spent time on loan with the Richmond Kickers in USL prior to him coming to winning the starting spot on the team.

Lastly, aside of how he’s performed for New England. Turner has also been huge on an international level representing the US between the pipes. Matt has made 13 appearances with the US Men National Team since his debut in January of 2021. Last summer, Matt earned the Concacaf Gold Cup Golden Glove Award while helping the national team with the title over Mexico.

I would be incredibly happy for Matt. However, nothing is yet set in stone and this story will be monitored as information trickles in.
