Are the Nashville Predators peaking at the wrong time?
The Nashville Predators are off to a great start to the season. They are currently 26-14-3(55 points) which is 3rd in the division and conference as well. I think we can all agree that nobody saw this coming, not even from the team’s own fanbase. The team made a lot of moves in the off-season by trading away fan favorites and getting younger. Most people figured the team was starting to prepare for the future, but General Manger David Poile let everybody know that it was a “competitive rebuild”.
At first glance, nobody was really fans of the moves, but as of today, the moves look great. Outside of those moves, a lot of players are stepping up this season. Outside of Josi, guys like Duchene, Grandlund, Johansen, and Jeannott are playing key roles into their success. Duchene and Johansen are playing up to their contracts this season and hopefully that continues.
Coach John Hynes needs to get credit too. It was a questionable hire in the beginning, but the team has bought into the system and its starting to blossom. The Predators might not have any flashy players like McDavid or Pasternak, but what they do have is a whole team that can contribute in any fashion. I feel like thats rare in hockey today is having your big time cause playing all aspects.
The Predators one of the more well-rounded teams in the league. They are great defensively, they can light it up if they need to, and they can also get scrappy. The best of all, they have a really good goalie in Juuse Saros. He has blossomed into one of the best goalies in the league. It’s pretty hard to follow up someone like Pekka Rinne, but so far he is off to a great start. This team is built to be really solid for the next couple years, so the time is now.
The Nashville Predators are going to be fine. They will make the playoffs and are going to make some noise because have the team and pieces to do it. They could add another D-man to help strengthen their back end.
