A Letter to Henrik Lundqvist

Dear Mr. Lundqvist,

First off, Thank you. What else can I say? Thank you for the happiness and joy you brought me over the years. Thank you for coming into my life right when I started to really understand hockey. And most importantly, thank you for being the best Ranger that has ever warn that jersey.

I cannot explain how I feel knowing that you won’t be suiting up for the Rangers again. I did not think anyone could match the emotions of what I felt when David Wright stepped off the field for the last time, but here you are. Thank you for all of the memories that you provided. Thank you for stopping Daniel Briere on a penalty shot in the Winter Classic and for pouring water all over Sidney Crosby. And thank you for the memory of 2014. What you and that team accomplished was amazing to watch. From anchoring the comeback against Pittsburgh, to making sprawling saves against Montreal, it was an absolute pleasure to watch you play goalie.

I will cherish those memories for as long as I live. Also, I will have the honor of telling my nieces and nephews that I got to watch you play for our favorite team. You belong right up there with the all-time greats. When people think of Rangers hockey, they will think of Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, and Henrik Lundqvist. Your number will look great right next to Mike Richter’s and you will look great at your Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Finally, enjoy wherever you decide to play next. I will always root for you no matter where you go. It will be very weird to see you in another team’s jersey, but I know that some good things must come to an end. Thank you.

All hail King Henrik.
