The road to Extreme Rules starts now. SummerSlam has come and gone and boy did we have some fireworks. We saw the returns of Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar. We got Oldberg “goldberg” not being able to continue his match. John Cena vs Roman & Edge vs Seth Rollins really stole the show. SummerSlam was great, but I am not here to talk about that. If you want my real thoughts on SummerSlam get ready to listen to episode 23 of Suplex Biddies.
Today I am here to give you my early thoughts on what we could see the Extreme Rules card looking like. WWE has that as there next PPV for Sunday September 26th. So they have five weeks to build up the hype for the PPV. With that being said here are my thoughts on the Extreme Rules PPV.
Extreme Rules Match Predictions
WWE RAW Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (C) vs Alexa Bliss
This one I think will work itself into existence first and that is the Raw Women’s championship match. Nikki A.S.H. will get her rematch on a RAW within the next two weeks, and then after the match Bliss will come out and set her eyes on Flair. We can’t keep seeing Flair vs Ripley, we have seen it too many times already and it is time to give someone else a chance. The someone this time around will be Alexa Bliss.
The way this plays out will be interesting, because I don’t know if Alexa really needs the Women’s title around her waist. Her character is beloved at the moment, but getting beaten by Flair could take some air out of her momentum. However, I think this will be best case scenario for WWE as you get Charlotte a new challenger and have Bliss back in the title picture. Win/win situation from WWE here just don’t mess up the booking.
Smackdown Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (C) vs Bianca Belair vs Sasha Banks
Becky Lynch made her surprising return to WWE with an emphatic statement. She came out after Sasha was announced as unable to compete. First Carmella came out as she was scheduled to face Bianca Belair. Then the swerve of the night came out and Becky Lynch came out and got a shot at Belair. Belair accepted and lost the title in under thirty seconds. Now we will see the spark of this rivalry, but we will also see Sasha Banks getting added to this as well.
Sasha will come back and make her statement on how she is still owed a title shot. The triple threat match will be announced and you have your sleeper of a match in front of you. This triple threat match will be highly considered the match of the night and will end up being a big time factor for the Smackdown Women’s Division.
Intercontinental Championship: King Nakamura (C) vs Sami Zayn
The Intercontinental championship was not on the line at SummerSlam. Which means we will more than likely see it on the card for Extreme Rules. Who should Nakamura face for the Intercontinental title? Why I think Sami Zayn could be the next in line for the Intercontinental Championship. We haven’t seen Zayn on TV much, but I think he and Nakamura would have a fantastic feud together. I don’t expect this to be a long feud, but I am getting the feeling that Zayn pops up on Smackdown again and is going to be the one to challenge Nakamura next for the title.
United States Championship: Damian Priest (C) vs A.J. Styles
Damian Priest won the United States championship at SummerSlam over Sheamus. I truly believe that their rematch will be on Raw and that we will see him face a new challenger at the Extreme Rules PPV. That challenger will be none other than the Phenomenal AJ Styles. I think these two feuding in the mid card would be a big help to Monday Night Raw. Raw needs help in the mid-card and having these two be the feud of the mid-card would be excellent. These two have never crossed paths from my knowledge so lets put them together and see what kind of magic we will see from the both of them.
WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley (C) vs Keith Lee
Let me get my hopes up a little bit here. I think that unfortunately we will see Lashley vs Goldberg again, but I don’t see it happening until Crown Jewel. So that means Lashley needs an opponent for a short period of time. Someone like Keith Lee could absolutely flourish in this short feud with Lashley. Now I have Keith Lee as my Royal Rumble winner (sorry for the future spoiler), but I think he deserves a shot at Lashley one on one.
When he came back he kind of got squashed by Lashley so I can see why he wants to get a rebuttal against him. However I think that these two could work a great quick feud together and not only does it get Keith Lee back on television. It also gives him a chance to prove to the guys backstage that he belongs in the main event. So let me go a little bias with this one, but this is my prediction for the WWE title match.
Karrion Kross vs Drew McIntyre
This is another one of those weird feelings that I am getting. Karrion Kross just lost his NXT title last night, so he is bound to come up to Monday night RAW. I feel that they are going to try and push Kross as soon as possible. One way to get him on the card for sure is to have him go one on one with Drew McIntyre. McIntyre is a big name on the card that should be on every card. Since he can’t compete for the WWE title because Lashley still has it, why not put him up against what Vince believes is the next big thing.
I think this feud makes too much sense, and that Kross and McIntyre will be one of those long rivalries that WWE will book into the ground. Watch out for these two to collide sooner rather than later.
WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (C) vs Finn Balor
Now I understand that people are going to say, hey did you not watch the PPV. How do you not see that Brock Lesnar is next for Roman’s title? Well let me let you in on a little thought that I am having. They save the Lesnar vs Reigns match for Crown Jewel. WWE will need that as their “big draw” and that card will be a miniature SummerSlam esque card in my opinion. So if they do that who does Roman fight in the meantime?
Well people forget that him and Balor still have unfinished business. Let that take up the next few weeks of Smackdown and ride that for your Extreme Rules main event. Make it seem like Roman is ducking Lesnar to set up for a huge feud come Crown Jewel. Sounds like a better scenario to me in my opinion. Rather than rush the rivalry with Lesnar, it would be classic WWE to prolong it without them actually fighting in the ring. The Extreme Rules match between the two of them would be great don’t get me wrong. I just see WWE saving their feud for Crown Jewel. So look to see Balor back on tv and feuding with Roman for the time being.
