Zach Senyshyn scores a hat trick on Colby Cave Night at the Dunk in Providence
The last year and a half has been incredibly difficult for Emily Cave, the widow of former Boston Bruins forward Colby Cave. Last night, the Boston Bruins honored the late Bruins and Oilers forward from the T.D. Garden in Boston. From the hugs to tears, the emotional night at the Garden was special despite the Bruins losing the game.

Fast-forward one night later and the Providence Bruins would also honor Cave. Prior to the game, Emily would drop the ceremonial first puck onto the ice. She would exchange hugs with P-Bruins forward Zach Senyshyn and Leigh Valley’s Logan Day.
Senyshyn and Cave were not only former teammates but friends off the ice.
“Colby was one of my best friends and best teammates I ever had, but it really was the stuff he did in the community, and the way he was able to touch everyone’s lives around him. That made him such a special person,” Senyshyn said back in May.
On Friday night, Senyshyn would honor his late friend with the ultimate honor. Senyshyn would score a hat trick to help lead Providence to a 6-3 win.

Colby Cave will never be forgotten
It’s incredible as to how sports connect people from the camaraderie of teammates to the connection we have as fans to the players. The Colby Cave story is special in the sense it was incredibly relatable. Death isn’t a selective process, it’s something that will happen to all of us. It’s the memories and stories that we create in the process that are special.
It’s unfortunate that the Colby Cave story ended in tragedy. However, it’s nights like the one in Boston and in Providence that the likes of Emily and the fans of Colby will forever cherish.
