Winners And Losers EPL Matchday 22

Matchday 22 of the EPL is officially in the books. We had an interesting Matchday as we had a plethora of good games, and we had a very surprising result to say the least. Heading into Matchday 23 we look at the slate of games that we just watched over the past couple of days. With that being said here are my winners and losers from Matchday 22.

Winners:

Manchester United

Manchester United absolutely blowed out Southampton on Tuesday. This was a top to bottom all-out win by United. OGS’ 4-2-3-1 formation absolutely killed Southampton’s 4-4-2 formation. United played such a great game that they tied the premier league record for biggest win margin in EPL history. Southampton started the game off with a red card and after that it went all down hill from there.

Can’t take anything away from United though, they played a fantastic 90 minute team game that was the best game that they played all season. United needed this confidence boost going into their game this weekend against Everton. Especially with being three points back of Man City who have a game on United, this was a much needed win for United. Look for them to also take a big step this weekend, as they look to beat Everton.

Other Winners:

West Ham United:

After a rough loss to Liverpool, West Ham got a crucial win against Aston Villa on Wednesday. West Ham got a big debut from Jesse Lingard who scored a brace in his West Ham debut. They needed a win to stay within the top six as of right now. West Ham has a beneficial schedule coming up as they are due to play Fulham, and Sheffield United in the coming up days. In order for West Ham to stay in the top six, they need to keep winning games and with their schedule coming up I wouldn’t be surprised.

Everton:

Everton has a big test ahead of them on Saturday, so coming into this one people were worried that they would over look Leeds. They did not do that and they got the job done. This was a big game for Ancelotti and company as their aspirations for at least finishing in the top six is still alive. Even without James Rodriguez, this team was able to compete with the rough and tough Leeds squad. Saturday will be a big test for Everton, but in Matchday 22 they were a winner in my eyes.

Losers:

Liverpool

By god did Liverpool play abysmally on Wednesday. They lost their second straight home game to a team in the bottom of the table. In Liverpool’s last two home games they lost to Burnley who is in 17th, and Brighton who is in 15th. Not a good look for the defending champs that are looking to repeat as champions. I understand the injuries that they have gotten hit with isn’t ideal for them, but they still need to try in games against the bottom of the table.

At times this season this team has played to the level as their opponents. They need to play like they are playing against the best team in the table. If they can do that they will not be in the loser category for the rest of the season. Klopp needs to get this team back in form as they have a big matchup against Manchester City this weekend.

Other Losers:

Arsenal:

Arsenal needed a win in order to jump up in the table. They were playing Wolves who are currently sitting in 14th place in the table. Wolves also got their first win in the EPL since December on Tuesday. Arsenal put out what I think is one of their best lineups on Tuesday, but things did not go well for them. They were up towards the end of the first half when David Luiz got sent off with a red card. Also later in the game their goaltender Bernd Leno also got a red card too. Both of those players will miss Arsenal’s next game this weekend against Aston Villa. They need points as often as they can in order to contend for a top six spot in the table. They are losers in matchday 22.

Tottenham:

Tottenham is slowly seeing their chance at contending for a top four spot in the table slip far and far away from their fingers at the moment. This team is without Harry Kane and without him Mourinho looks lost. He doesn’t look like he knows what to do with this team without his star striker. Tottenham has dropped their last three games and only have one win in their last five. They do match up with West Bromwich at home this weekend, so they can bounce back. As for matchday 22 and not being able to steal a point away from Chelsea, they are a loser in my opinion.
