Will you Recognize the Champions from the Quarantine Year?

Mike’s Monday Mantra

“There is no good or bad without us, there is only perception. There is the event itself and the story we tell ourselves about what it means.”
Ryan Holiday, The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph

Monday Mantra back in full swing. Fell off with it on my blogs and in real life. That happens, but you got to dust it off, get back up and keep going. My cousin put me on to a trilogy of books by Ryan Holiday and the first one I picked up was this one. Lately, in my personal life, I have noticed myself thinking more and more about perception. I wrote about it a little on my own blog. So when I picked this book up and this was one of the first quotes, it all made sense. Read this quote a couple of times to really understand it. I won’t go any further into it. The perception of how you take it is up to you.

Will you recognize the Champs of this year?

I thought about this a lot over these quarantine months. The main reason is that I felt the Celtics were really buzzing. Ever since the Sox in ’04, I will never look at a team’s skill as the number 1 important thing. I think of chemistry. This team had it. Anyway, with my high hopes let down, I got to thinking about the Champs for all sports.

Above is The Jumps reaction to Shaq, who said this year should be canceled or there will be an asterisk. T-Mac made an excellent point. If the Lakers, Bucks, Clippers were to win, then you can argue that it didn’t matter. They were favorites to win anyway. Richard Jefferson’s point is the point I would make. He explained that as sports fans, we NEVER give an asterisk. The Steroid Era was viewed as okay by most people under the age of 45. The Astros won’t have an asterisk either, and they did some things we may never see again. I think when it comes down to it, it won’t have to have the little * next to the 2020 Champions. If your team won, you’d be elated, and if you got robbed, you’d blame the COVID season. That just how we live as sports fans.
