Will Cam Newton Remain a Patriot?

The New England Patriots entered the off-season with no plan at the Quarterback position. Last season was the first season without Quarterback Tom Brady and fans thought Jarred Stidham was going to be the next guy in New England. However, on June 28th, the New England Patriots unexpectedly signed Quarterback Cam Newton and it brought some excitement to the city.

However, things did not turn out as planned, as the team finished the season 7-9 and missed the playoff for the first time since 2008. Newton struggled after he was diagnosed with COVID and left the fans frustrated. So, what is the plan now for the Patriots? That remains to be seen.

The more days that go by, the feeling is Newton could be coming back. That could be just be me but the Patriots really don’t have a plan. Cam Newton is still a free agent and there are only a couple realistic options for the Patriots to do.

The names that have been floating around are San Francisco Quarterback, Jimmy Garopollo, and Las Vegas backup Quarterback, Marcus Mariota. However, more reports come out every day that Garopollo is not going to be available unless the 49ers get an upgrade at the position. Mariota is still an option but what will the Patriots offer? The team has the 15th pick in the NFL Draft and it feels like the team could miss out on one the top Quarterbacks in the Draft.

I am not all in for signing Newton but if the team doesn’t have a plan the position, why not draft someone in the middle of the draft, develop him, and sign Newton. It might not make the fans happy but Newton could be a good bridge guy for now until the team figures out the future of the position.
