Why I Don’t Want Kyrie On The Celtics
There’s been a ton of speculation of where Kyrie Irving is going to end up since he requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. But a new rumor just got thrown into this wild fire by someone who has an inside scoop. Former Cavs GM David Griffin went on ESPN’s “The Jump” earlier this week and said that Kyrie would be interested in coming to Boston. Once that broke, the local Boston media went crazy and started coming up with trade proposals. After listening to most of the radio shows, it appeared that most Celtic fans wanted Kyrie to be traded to Boston. Here’s why I am not in that camp.
First off, I think trading for Kyrie Irving would cost too much. Its rare that the top two teams in the conference would ever trade with one another, let alone superstars. So if the Cavs were to send Kyrie to the one team that could challenge them, they would have to have their socks knocked off. Everything I have heard that it would AT LEAST cost Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and the Brooklyn pick. There is no way in hell that I do that trade. Do the Celtics get the best player? Yes, but the Cavs get better because they got deeper and opened the longevity of their window with that Brooklyn pick. I also really do believe that Kyrie is only a bit better than Isaiah; but many people feel there’s a huge gap between them. The only feel constant argument I hear is that Thomas is under 6 feet. We’ve already seen that Thomas has proved us all wrong up to this point and I don’t want to see him on another team, let alone on the Cavs with LeBron.
Next and this is my main point; I don’t think Kyrie is a good fit in Boston. Everything that we have heard is that Kyrie wants to be the man to whichever franchise he goes to. While he would be the best player on the Celtics; he wouldn’t be the face. The Celtics have a spread out offense and the Cavs have been known to play a lot of iso ball. So his stats would go down. I also don’t think Brad Stevens wants anything to do with him. Brad Stevens, for better or worse, has seemed to stay away from players that have any sort of issue. I mean, he didn’t want to touch DeMarcus Cousins with a 10 foot poll. So why would he want to coach a player that seems to be all about himself? It doesn’t add up. So there ya go; no Kyrie for me!
