Who Wants to Win the NFC East?

At 6-4 the Washington Redskins are leading the NFC East but that won’t last for long. The ‘Skins lost their starting quarterback, Alex Smith, for the season after a gruesome leg injury. They have also lost two of their starting offensive lineman and first-year Washington receiver Paul Richardson.

I am not banking on Colt McCoy leading this Redskin squad to a division title, so who wins it? The New York Giants? No. Their offensive line is terrible and Eli Manning has seen better days.

What about the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles? I can’t see that either. Their defense is too banged up, specifically in the secondary. Add in a nonexistent running game and Philly is not looking that hot. Maybe un-drafted rookie running back Josh Adams helps, but I am not sure he can push them to the top. This leaves the Dallas Cowboys.

I absolutely hate saying this because the Cowboys have been gross this year. I mean, there were talks about firing the head coach mid-season! That is no ingredient to win a division, but Ezekiel Elliot is unreal and with Amari Cooper in the fold, Dak Prescott has been a better, more consistent quarterback. Even if Cooper was not worth the first-round pick they gave up, he has improved the offense drastically.

On the other side of the ball, the Dallas’ defense has been really solid all year. Leighton Van Der Esch (rookie linebacker from Boise State) has been great in the middle of their defense, especially when Sean Lee inevitably gets hurt. On the outside Byron Jones has become a shutdown corner too. Oh, they also have DeMarcus Lawrence who continues to put ample amounts of pressure on the QB.

It is not a definite that Dallas wins the division, but they are definitely looking like the top dog at the moment. The game against Washington tomorrow will tell a lot, but this messy division appears like it’s Dallas’s to lose.
