Who Should Trade for Josh Rosen?

Following the combine, there were a lot of reports that both the Cardinals and Raiders were in love with Kyler Murray. If the Cardinals do draft Murray, it’s likely that they would want to trade Rosen. Rather than looking at whether this is a good move for the Cardinals, I’m instead going to look at what teams should make a trade for Rosen. We’ll assume that in this scenario, the Cardinals will only accept a first round pick.

Washington Redskins

This trade makes a lot of sense for the Redskins. Clearly, the Redskins have a lot of pieces in place to succeed. They were 6-4 and leading the division with Alex Smith last year. However, Alex Smith isn’t going to play next year and in fact, may never play again. The Redskins need to look to the future, and Rosen could be that guy. He would be in a much better situation in Washington and would have a great mentor in Colt McCoy to look up to and learn from. Plus, the Redskins have the 15th pick, which is a tricky spot to pick a quarterback in this draft. Taking Rosen as their “15th pick” is a much better option than the other quarterbacks they could take there.

Miami Dolphins

I love Ryan Tannehill. I think he’s a very underrated quarterback. However, his career has been plagued by injuries. With Gase gone and Stephen Ross admitting that the team is in a full blown rebuild, it might be time to look elsewhere for a quarterback. There were rumors that the Dolphins wanted Rosen last year although he was taken just before Miami could take him. This could be the chance to get their quarterback and build around him for the next few years.

New England Patriots

Listen. As much as New England fans hate to hear this, Tom Brady isn’t going to play forever. I think there’s already been a noticeable decline in his physical skills. Rosen could be the perfect fit to replace Brady. Playing for Belichick and in the Patriots offense requires a great deal of intelligence. Leading up to the draft, Rosen was pegged as the most intelligent quarterback in the class. The Patriots have the last pick in the first round, so it’s not like they are giving up a top ten pick or anything. Sitting behind Brady would be perfect for Rosen, and would finally give the Patriots a succession plan for Tom Brady.
