Tonight, Call of Duty will release their very much anticipated Season 2 of Cold War. Overall, Cold War has been an ok game. It doesn’t quite have the feel that Modern Warfare had but it’s overall not terrible. But I can confidently say Verdansk and Warzone have saved the game. Even though Verdansk isn’t technically Cold War’s it has made the game a little more popular.
But, we all have to say goodbye to our beloved Verdansk. I can confidently say I had a great run (30 squad wins) in it but it is time to move on! We have about a 99.9% confirmation that the next Warzone map will be the Ural Mountains and will be made up of the groundwar maps from Cold War. I am honestly super excited for the Ural Mountains. I love a good jungle feel to a game. As much as I loved Verdansk, I kind of got tired of the city feel and I actually preferred the rural setting as of late.
But I have a few worries about Treyarch taking over Warzone. I think Infinity Ward did an absolute awesome job with this battle royale. Honestly, they did A+ work. But Treyarch isn’t close to A+ work. Cold War and it’s engineering and game play isn’t even close to it. Warzone has single handily brought people back to the franchise for the teamwork atmosphere and I’m afraid if Treyarch doesn’t produce to that “A” level then we might be in for a really long run. I asked this exact question on Xbox tonight to my friends, “Are they going to keep the Modern Warfare weapons?” I am going to have to say no. If Warzone is completely going over to Treyarch for the rest of the year, then why would they want a direct competitors features to still be in the game? It’s not going to happen. They will only make Cold War guns available which in return you will have to buy the game in order to level those weapons up in order to compete. Let’s be honest here, Treyarch will find a way to fuck this up. But I will be less harsh if they give the fans what they want. But I do think it will be solely Cold War weapons. Which sucks, but it is their game now.
Finally, I asked another question which I think is way more important than the weapons one. Will Warzone still be free? I think the answer is yes. But when it first came out, it was under the Modern Warfare server and it still is. But as of tomorrow it will be on Treyarch’s server and is now technically their game. So will you be required to have Cold War in order to play Ural Mountains, or is Warzone going to stay it’s own domain? The only reason it is under MW still is because that game is still being played and because Ural Mountains wasn’t ready yet. I am curious how this will play out. I think it will stay free and on it’s domain but man I can already feel the connection issues.
Lastly and aside from Warzone, I am also very excited for Outbreak. This feels exactly like the Fortnite Zombie events that would happen every few weeks/months. You play a normal battle royale against others but you also have to fight zombies. I loved it when Warzone did it for Halloween and I’m glad Treyarch is bringing two iconic game modes together. And I think this Outbreak mode could be good for Warzone because if Warzone sucks then at least you have a fun, not so serious game mode to fall back on.
Overall, I am really excited for the updates and what Treyarch has to bring to the table until next November. I think Verdansk was getting a little stale and players were getting tired of playing the same thing every night. Ural Mountains will be fresh and something COD fans will enjoy for the long run!
