What The Red Sox Need To Do To The Yankees
I don’t know about the rest of you, but it seems like time and time again, the Yankees end up taking our players from us. From Johnny Damon to Kevin Youkilis to Rodger Clemens. It always seems as if fan favorites end up in the pinstripes. It makes me sick! Well, it is time the Red Sox return the favor. You probably know where this is heading. DJ LeMahieu.
Why He Fits
As much as it pains me to see him go like this, Dustin Pedroia’s career is over. Thanks Manny Machado! Anyway, Peddy was and is still my favorite player. I loved the way he played the game and went about his business. Yes, towards the end, when they wanted him to step up and be the leader of the team, he didn’t quite grasp that as much as you would hope. Pedroia led by example; DJ would fill that role perfectly. Let me ask you something, during his time in New York, can you remember a time when he ran his mouth or anything? Hell, I don’t even know if I know what his voice sounds like. He goes out and quietly dominates the league. He has been in the league 10 years and is a career .305 hitter while batting .327 and .364 respectfully each of the last two seasons. He doesn’t just hit for average tho; he has a little pop in his bat too. During his 2 years with the Yanks, he hit 26 homers in 2019 and 10 homers while appearing in 50 games last season. Putting his name in the MVP discussion each of the last 2 seasons. That is why I think he would be a perfect fit both on the field and in the clubhouse.
What Would It Take
I think his first priority is to re-sign with NY, so we will have to go a little above what he is asking for if we want to pull him away from the Evil Empire. DJ is rumored to be looking for around a 5 year 100 million dollar deal, about 20 million a year. That is an absolute steal, I think. If I’m Bloom, I step up to the plate with a 5 year 125 million offer and see if the needle moves on his end at all. He just turned 32 in July, so that 5-year contract would bring him to around 37. Boston and New York definitely will not be the only ones in on him. In fact, I would imagine almost every team sound at least inquire about his services to see where he stands.
Conclusion
Make it happen, Bloom. We need a 2nd baseman. This guy can flat out play and has shown it throughout his entire 10-year career. I think it is a steal to get him at 20 mill a year and would even be fine with 25-30 mill a year. He is that good and would instantly make our lineup one of the scariest line-ups not only in the AL East but in all of baseball. Again, I think his top priority is to return to NY, but money talks. I’d love to watch him play at Fenway and see all the Yankees fans faces when DJ is hitting bomb after bomb against them for the next 5 years. Make a splash bloom! It is possible to make this happen, and now is your time to make sox fans fall in love with you. You have money now; spend it!
