Wells Fargo Championship Preview

The PGA heads back to Quail Hollow in Charlotte for the Wells Fargo Championship.  The last time the PGA tour came here was for last years PGA Championship where Justin Thomas walked away a winner.  Tiger Woods also makes his return to the course.  The last time we saw Tiger was at the Master’s where he finished T32.  Tiger has now cracked the top 100 in the world rankings and looks to get his first win in nearly 5 years.

A 7,554-yard par 71, very recently went through a course redesign to get ready for the PGA Championship last year.  The 5th hole used to be a par 5 but was turned into a par 4, making this a less inviting course for low scores.  Beware of the “Green Mile” (holes 16 through 18) because they are among the most difficult on the PGA Tour.

Favorites and Sleepers

Technically Brian Harman is the Wells Fargo Championship defending champion, but Justin Thomas is the only one to win on Quail Hollow’s new design.  Additionally, all eyes will be on Thomas to see if he can repeat his performance on this course.  Traditionally, the Wells Fargo Championship boasts a strong field.  And this week with the likes of Rory, Rickie, Tiger, Hideki, Phil, Brooks Koepka, and others continues that trend.  With such a strong field, it really wouldn’t be surprising if any of the top guns won this week.
