Who should I start?
Tis’ the season! It is officially week one of the NFL and with all of the doubt and negativity about there being a season, we are just hours away from the Chiefs and Texans kicking off tonight. Since football is starting, that means fantasy leagues across the world are ready to launch. No preseason games has fantasy managers scrambling on what quarterbacks can help catapult their team to a 1-0 start. No worries, we got you covered on what QB’s you must start to open the season as well as some honorable mentions.
First off, let us eliminate any confusion. Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson are match up proof and if you selected them early in your draft they are all a must start every week.
Philip Rivers (IND)
What better way to start your career with a new team than against a team that is completely depleted before the season even begins. The Jaguars are the closest thing to tanking after they let EVERYONE leave their franchise. From Ramsey being traded last year. Calais Campbell signing with the Ravens. Now, their final asset Leonard Fournette signing with the Buccaneers. I expect the Colts to win a lop sided game 31-13. Rivers will throw for 270 yards with his new team getting three Touchdowns through the air.
Josh Allen (BUF)
If you follow my articles, you already know I am big on Josh Allen in his second year as the starter in Buffalo. The reality behind this selection is not my admiration for Allen, but the Jets and their inefficiencies on defense. After Jamal Adams left for Seattle, the Jets have a bottom 10 defensive unit in the league. I expect Allen to build some great rapport with new wide out Stefon Diggs in week one and throw for 231 yards and a Touchdown through the air. Adding 50 yards rushing on the ground with another Touchdown. 281 total yards with a Touchdown both through the air and on the ground.
Jimmy Garoppolo (SF)
Jimmy really knows the system. This will be his third year with the San Francisco franchise. The leader will be ready to overcome his Super Bowl woes when the Arizona Cardinals come to town. Kittle will be fed early and often. I am not as big on the Cardinals this year as most people and I think the 49ers will be too much too handle this Sunday. I believe the 49ers will come out with a strong passing attack and beat the Cardinals 29-17. Jimmy will throw for 310 yards and three Touchdowns. Kittle will have 113 yards and two Touchdowns.
Joe Burrow (CIN)
Love the matchup. Love Burrow for Rookie of the Year. However, I am not willing to risk the start to my fantasy season on a player that has never witnessed a live NFL Defense. Even though the Chargers are missing their best defensive player Derwin James to injury, I want to see Burrow succeed before he is in my starting lineup.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA)
What is the Patriots defense going to look like without Hightower, Chung, Van Noy and Collins? Yikes. I expect Fitz to have his way this Sunday but due to the mind of Belichick I refuse to fade the Patriots defense until I see them under perform with my own eyes.
