Watt’s Final Destination
The Houston Texans have officially parted ways with their Hall Of Fame caliber Defensive End. J.J. Watt will most likely play for just one more team before he retires. The question we are all wondering is where he will end up signing? The teams that really stand out as a destination in my opinion are the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, or Cleveland Browns.
The Three-Time Defensive Player Of The Year is looking to add a Super Bowl ring to his resume which is just about the only thing he lacks. Below I will indulge lightly on why I believe these teams have a strong chance of signing Watt.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The main reason why I have the Pittsburgh Steelers as the number one destination is simple, family. T.J. Watt as well as their other brother Derek Watt are both part of the team and playing professional football with two of your brothers is a pretty cool accolade for anyone. The Pittsburgh Steelers were off to an 11-0 start before losing both Bud Dupree and Devon Bush on the defensive side of the ball. Adding Watt’s leadership as well as ability to stop the run can put the Steelers immediately back into Super Bowl contention. Even if Ben decides to hang it up.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills were the Cinderella Story of the 2020 Season and were just one win short of a Super Bowl appearance. Jerry Hughes has cemented himself as one of the premier pass rushers in the league and adding J.J. Watt to the stout defensive line could push them closer to a Super Bowl birth. The duo of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs is here to stay and could be a main attraction of why the Free Agent might pack his bags and head to Buffalo.
The AFC East should belong to Buffalo once again and we all know how important a Division Title is when it comes to a playoff birth each and every year. If Watt wants a guaranteed shot at the Super Bowl then Buffalo would not be a bad spot to land for the 2021 NFL Season.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers continue to be one piece away from a Super Bowl Championship. Although they already have two great pass rushers in Preston Smith and Za’darius Smith, Watt could add a spark to the locker room. This Green Bay defense has allowed over 30 points per game in the last two NFC Championships to the 49ers and Buccaneers.
Having Watt join the defense would be an immediate help with both stopping the run and enhancing their third down pass rush. The Packers remain the closest team to reach a Super Bowl and will do anything to get over the hump of the Conference Championship.
Cleveland Browns
Watt and Garrett would combine for one serious defensive live. The Browns have hope for the future after their first playoff win in over a decade. Mayfield seems to have proved himself to be a franchise Quarterback and with Beckham coming back from injury all arrows are pointing up.
The Cleveland defense was the main reason they were unable to hang with the Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the 2020 Playoffs. With the Coach Of The Year having a full offseason with his team it could lead to an even deeper playoff run in 2021.
