It is time for round 2 of the Honda West Division Stanley Cup playoffs. In this series playoff preview, we have the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche playing to advance. Many predicted that these would be the two teams to face off in this round.
The Avalanche were the Presidents’ Trophy winners this season. They finished the regular season with the most points in the NHL. This team comes into this series well rested after sweeping the Blues in round 1. This week of rest could benefit the team. In round 1 against the Blues, the Avalanche scored at least 4 goals a game.
Nathan Mackinnon through this series had 9 points, which is impressive considering game 3 he was not on the scoresheet. The key for this team is their offense. Their goalie, Philipp Grubauer will also be a key player. During the four game sweep he had a 1.75 GAA and a .936 save percentage. Can he continue this impressive performance against the Golden Knights?
Vegas Golden Knights Playoff Preview
The Golden Knights were the team with the most regular season wins at 40 games. They finished right behind the Avalanche in the regular season and it came down to the last game to decide the Presidents’ Trophy winner. This team just finished their round 1 series, winning Game 7 against the Wild on Friday 6-2. Not being rested and jumping into round 2 could have its benefits as well with keeping momentum.
One of the key players for the Golden Knights, Max Pacioretty just came back in game 7 after sitting out the first 6 games. He scored a goal in this comeback. Mattias Janmark who the Golden Knights traded for in April, had a hat trick in game 7. The key for the Golden Knights will be generating plays on all lines. Their goalie Marc- Andre Fleury also comes off an impressive first round performance. In their 7 game series against the wild Fleury produced a 1.71 GAA and a .931 save percentage. But, will the Golden Knights continue to use him or will they opt for Robin Lehner?
One thing is for certain these two teams are on the top of their game this year. In a normal year this very well could be a Stanley Cup Final game. However, due to realignment this matchup comes in round 2. This series could easily go back and forth for 7 games. It is going to be a good one!
