Tyron Woodly Will Be Defending His Belt At UFC 228, But Not Against Colby Covington

It’s official the UFC 228 headliner in Dallas Texas will feature welterweight champ Tyron Woodly. His opponent won’t be Colby Covington. Covington won the UFC interim welterweight championship against Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 225. This win guaranteed him a title shot against Tyron Woodly. As we now when it comes to the UFC interim belts really don’t mean a thing. UFC ask Covington to fight Woodly at UFC 228, but Covington declined because he needs surgery. So who’s Woodly’s opponent for UFC 228?

The young star from Liverpool Darren Till. The UFC is obviously very high on Darren Till and it’s easy to see why. Till is very skilled and is huge for the welterweight division, he could easily be fighting in the light heavyweight division. A matchup between Till and Woodly will be a very interesting fight. Woodly is by far the most skilled and well rounded opponent Till has ever been matched up against in the UFC.

This title shot doesn’t come without controversy though. Till’s last fight was against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. It was the main event for UFC Liverpool. Till won the fight via decision, but he did miss weight by 3.5 pounds. Many fighters and fans are saying Till is undeserving of the title shot because he missed weight. Their argument is if you miss weight in your previous fight, you should not be rewarded a title fight. Regardless of their argument Woodly vs Till is official for UFC 228, and fans are in for a good one.
