Two Years Ago Today Jayson Tatum Arrived

Today marks the two year anniversary of Jayson Tatum posterizing one of his childhood idols, LeBron James, in game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals.

It’s a shame that the Celtics went on to lose that game and didn’t take advantage of any momentum they gained from that dunk. That dunk should’ve sparked a 20-0 run to close out the game and send the Cavaliers packing. But, not everything goes the way we want it to.

We won’t point any fingers, but we all know Jayson Tatum wasn’t the reason we lost that game. Despite the loss, Tatum made a name for himself not only in this game but throughout Boston’s entire postseason run. In 19 games, Tatum averaged nearly 19 points, a little over four rebounds, and three assists per game. His three-point shooting wasn’t spectacular but shot 47% from the field overall. I mean… the kid was only 19!

The impact of Tatum’s dunk makes that series loss sting a little less. I mean, LeBron and the Cavs ended up getting swept in the NBA Finals anyways. I think the Celtics could’ve gotten a game on them and kept it somewhat competitive, but nobody was going to beat the Warriors that year.

That postseason, that series, and that career-defining game sent Jayson Tatum into the direction of stardom. Just look at him now and think that it all started after he dunked on his childhood idol, LeBron James.
