The XFL Has Officially Ceased Operations…AGAIN
It sucks that we can’t watch sports right now. But for these leagues like the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA, we know it’s going to eventually come back. The XFL can’t say that now. The league has decided to shut down operations in 2020 and potentially forever.
Breaking: The XFL suspended operations Friday morning and laid off nearly all of its staff, multiple sources told @SeifertESPN and @FieldYates.

My Immediate Reaction
It’s a shame that this had to happen to the XFL. Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck were getting somewhere. The football was competitive. The players were a lot better than the first XFL season in 2001. Fans and spectators were going to games and watching on television. It’s a real gut punch. You have to feel for the players, coaches, and all other workers involved in getting the XFL up and running. Now, you’re getting shutdown because of a global pandemic? That’s a bitter pill to swallow.
The Future Seems Bleak
It says it right in the tweet. The league doesn’t have any plans to run in 2021. That would be heartbreaking. Think of a place like St. Louis in this case. They finally got a football team back in the city. Now, it’s getting ripped away from them again. Washington D.C. had a GOOD football team to root for with the XFL. A lot of people lose out and now, it doesn’t look like the league will be back. This had legs to be something special for years to come too. COVID-19, you better be leaving VERY soon!
