The Rafters Pod Ep. 84: Brown’s 50 Ball Keeps Season Alive

With Jayson Tatum missing time with Covid-19, Jaylen Brown shouldered the load dropping a 50 ball on the Orlando Magic to keep Bostons season alive. In a game that ended in overtime, every one of those points were valuable in stopping a sharp decline in the standings for the team. Brown became the 4th Celtic to have a 50 point double double joining elite company.

This Celtics team is going to need more of that hero ball if they want any chance of a postseason run. Right now Boston stands as the 9th seed in the East buried behind some dangerous teams. In the modern NBA landscape stars are in and out of lineups with protocol so Boston needs to have a string of good luck and skilled play to get back on track. Justin and Liam have seen this story before though and it usually doesn’t pay off well, unfortunately.

First year Coach Ime Udoka continues to struggle when it comes to a consistent game plan and rotation for the team. While some of that is due to the sweeping illness, much of that is to his own doing. The Boston Celtics are in limbo right now. Not good enough to do damage to contenders when it matters but not bad enough to tank for a top pick. Fans are openly displeased anytime this team isn’t competitive and there has been an abundance this season.

The fellas are gearing up for a trade episode next week in hopes of putting together season saving moves. Justin has the most faith in Brad Stevens to make big moves when necessary while Liam proves the skeptic. After years of Danny Ainge not jumping the gun, why would Brad do it any differently?
