The Rafters Pod Ep. 76: Kickin The Knicks In Opener

Tomorrow marks the big day! The Boston Celtics take on the New York Knicks at the famed Madison Square Garden in the season opener. The Knicks enjoyed a bounce back season last year resulting in a first round exit to the Hawks. This year they look to build on that momentum, signing two of the Celtics highest paid players from the season prior in Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier. Familiar faces isn’t what shakes the confidence of the two Rafters hosts. Justin specifically expresses his concern with Bostons injury list with a potential four key players set to miss the opener. If most or all of these guys can make it onto the court though there is reason for optimism. Over the off-season Boston overhauled on new personnel after a coaching change established a new era in green and white.

With the start of the regular season, the guys cover all the last minute roster moves made. Unfortunately, one of those moves hit home for our two hosts when Jabari Parker was waived freeing up a 15th spot on the roster. The fellas express remorse and discuss what they would like to see from that last spot and potential options going forward.

A final record prediction was in order as well. To avoid bias from the start, Justin and Liam both give their set in stone record predictions for the Celtics. Justin sticks to his early slot of having them above 50 wins but Liam goes in game-by-game and isn’t as confident.

In the spirit of the fresh 2021-2022 season, The Rafters will be doubling up on episodes this week. A recap and introspective look at early Boston Celtics hoops and Knicks opener will be coming later in the week following Bostons trip to the big apple.
