The Rafters Pod Ep. 120: Another Game 2 Loss
Another Game 2 loss is starting to have the headlines talking curse. The Celtics and Bruins have yet to win a game 2 in either round of their respected Playoffs. The Celtics dropped their only loss of the last series in Game 2 when they let the Heat shoot a blistering 55% from downtown. Against the Cavaliers, history seems to be repeating itself. Boston had an early lead that evaporated into the third under the hot hand of Cavs star Donovan Mitchell. Before fans knew it, Boston was down 15 in the fourth with flickering hope of a comeback. That flickering died after a quick run by Cleveland brought in Boston’s bench players with 5 minutes left in the last quarter. Another Game 2 loss.
The Celtics remain without Porzingis, who is expected to miss the rest of this series with a calf strain. The Latvian big man has been filmed working out and practicing his shot but still looks far from 100%. The Rafters crew hold Kristaps Porzingis in high regard as arguably the most important piece on this team. His ability to open up the court with his deep shooting and rim protection with his 7’3 frame makes this team completely different with and without him. In a looming series against New York or Indiana on the horizon, Boston needs him back. Especially to avoid another Game 2 loss.
Jayson Tatum was once looked at as the next face of the league. Playing into Kobe Bryant being his idol, his star rose fast being apart of the playoffs every season of his career. His career seemed destined for superstar success. As time has gone on, it may be time for Celtics fans to come to terms with Tatum’s potential ceiling. Stars like Edwards and Luka are becoming better.
