The Patriots Made Zero Additions at the Trade Deadline
Other than the shocker that sent Jimmy Garapolo to San Francisco for a second-round pick, the Patriots did not make any moves before today’s 4:00 PM trade deadline. Was this the right move?
The Patriots defense currently ranks dead last in the NFL in yards per game at 417. With the loss of Dont’a Hightower, there’s no question they should have gone out to get literally ANYBODY that can help on defense. I disagree with the decision to stand-pat, but there’s a reason I’m not the GM. Belichick must be ok with what he has.
As for offense, I’m ok with them not making any additions there. Even without Edelman, this is still the best passing offense in the NFL right now. Hogan went down last week but isn’t expected to miss much time, so there’s nothing to worry about there. Heading into a bye week, the offense is in good enough shape to roll with what they’ve got.
While they decided to stay put at the deadline, the rest of the league did not. This was arguably one of the more eventful trade deadlines in recent memory. Notable moves around the league include:
- Bills trade Marcell Dareus to the Jaguars
- Texans trade Duane Brown to the Seahawks
- Dolphins trade Jay Ajayi to the Eagles
- Panthers trade Kelvin Benjamin to the Bills
