The 2019 Clover Report: Week 17

With the whirlwind of trade rumors the past week, it was a hectic week for the Boston Celtics. But basketball had to be played and the Celtics had three games this week. To start off, the Celtics traveled to New York to face the Knicks. The Knicks are the worst team in basketball and the Celtics ran away from them and won 113–99. Kyrie Irving finished with 23 points and 10 assists while six Celtics in total scored in double figures.

After an easy win, the Celtics went back home on Super Bowl Sunday to host the Oklahoma City Thunder. This was the definition of a shootout as the Celtics and the Thunder could not miss. Paul George went for a game high 37 points while Russell Westbrook went for another triple-double. But the Celtics were with them every step of the way as eight Celtics scored in double digits. Kyrie Irving closed the game out for Boston as he finished with 30 points and 11 assists as the Celtics won 134–129. Marcus Smart also had a good game as he finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and dished out 7 assists. It was an win impressive as OKC is widely one of the few true contenders in the West.

The Celtics and Thunder had a shootout on Super Bowl Sunday.

Finally to finish out the week, the Celtics traveled to Cleveland to take on the lowly Cavs. Considering the Cavs suck, the Celtics held out both Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris for minor injuries. While the game was closer than expected, Boston was able to win 103–96 for their fifth straight win. Jayson Tatum led the way with 25 points while Gordon Hayward added 18 points off of the bench. It was a nice moment for Hayward as it was his first game back in Cleveland since his gruesome injury. Hopefully it’s another step in his long road back.

Today is a big day for the Celtics for multiple reasons. First off, the Celtics are hosting their arch rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James. But today is also the trade deadline. I don’t expect anything major to happen to the Celtics but you can never tell in the NBA. 35–19.
