Taylor Hall Signs With Buffalo

The signing

Over the weekend, the hockey world was left in shock when top free agent Taylor Hall signed with the Buffalo Sabres. Hall signed a 1 year, $8 million contract with Buffalo. According to Hockey Reference, he scored 16 goals and registered 36 assists (52 points) in 65 games played last year with New Jersey and Arizona.

My thoughts

When I saw Hall signed with Buffalo, I was in shock. When Hall hit the free agency market, I think everyone, including myself, thought he would sign with a contender. As a Sabres fan, I thought we had no shot of signing Hall. I think the two biggest reasons why Hall chose Buffalo: Jack Eichel and Ralph Krueger. Starting off with Eichel, he’s one of the best players in the league. He said in the offseason that he is frustrated with the losing, and you can’t blame him. The addition of Hall really helps out Jack and hopefully general manager Kevyn Adams adds more talent to this team.

For head coach Ralph Krueger, he coached Hall when he was the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers. Krueger is a motivator and a lot of the players on the Sabres roster loves what he brings to the table. Here is part of the conversation with Sabres management and Hall.

With the addition of Hall, I think the Sabres top six will look like this:

Victor Olofsson-Jack Eichel-Taylor Hall

Jeff Skinner-Eric Staal-Sam Reinhart
