TaxAct Texas Bowl Preview

This is the very last bowl game of the season. We have one more college football game after that, but that is the national title game. Bowl season ends officially after Monday night’s national title game, but we aren’t focused on that right now. We are focused on the TaxAct Texas Bowl matchup. This matchup is between the Big 12 and the SEC. On one side we have a quarterback finishing out his college career, while the other team will be very thin at the quarterback position in this one. The matchup is between Kansas State (6-6) and LSU (6-6). With that being said here is my preview for the TaxAct Texas Bowl.

Kansas State

The Kansas State Wildcats have had some ups and downs in 2021. However, they finished the season bowl eligible and will look to end their quarterback’s Skylar Thompson’s career on a good note. Thompson was banged up a bunch during his time at Kansas State, but he was very good when he was healthy and on the field. This Kansas State offense however is led by running back Deuce Vaughn. Vaughn rushed for 1,258 rushing yards to go along with 15 rushing touchdowns. He also averaged 5.9 yards per carry this season. Kansas State’s offense doesn’t put up a ton of points as they just average a little over 26 points per game. However, in this matchup they can score a lot of points.

Defensively, the Wildcats are very good at stopping the running game. Kansas State gives up 126.3 rushing yards per game this season and allow just over 21 points per game. A lot of factors come into this one, but Kansas State’s defense should be ending the season on a good note.

LSU

This LSU Tigers team is in shambles up until after the bowl game. They have no scholarship quarterbacks that will be playing in this one. LSU will rely on either Tavion Faulk or Matt O’Dowd both of which are walk-ons. With the inexperience at quarterback, I do not trust this LSU offense in this bowl matchup. Well then LSU can run the football effectively right? Well, their starting running back has declared for the NFL Draft. Which means LSU’s horrendous rushing offense gets that much worse. This team overall will be a lot better when Brian Kelly is officially the head coach, but for this bowl matchup it doesn’t look good.

Prediction:

Kansas State is a 7 point favorite with the over/under set at 47.5. My lean here is the over, but I wouldn’t be surprised if LSU’s offense was so non-existent that they put up zero points. So we will stay away from that and head straight for the line. The play is simple it is Kansas State -7. I think Kansas State easily walks all over this LSU team. Kansas State wants it more and LSU is looking to get this game over with so that the Brian Kelly era can officially begin. Ride the Wildcats in this bowl matchup.
