TaxAct Camellia Bowl Preview

Christmas Day will be a very exciting day especially because we have a bowl game on Christmas Day this year. On Christmas Day we have a Sun Belt vs MAC matchup that should be an intriguing one for sure. We have Georgia State (7-5) going up against Ball State (6-6). This one should be an entertaining one to watch on Christmas Day. With that being said here is my preview for the TaxAct Camellia Bowl.

Georgia State

This Georgia State team is a very talented group. This is a team that beat Coastal Carolina and nearly upset Louisiana Lafayette as well. They also played a tough schedule this season. Some of the opponents that they also faced this season were Auburn, Army, North Carolina and Appalachian State. All of those teams that have been mentioned are playing in bowl games this year. The Panthers closed the season winning six out of their last seven games.

Georgia State also averages more than 230 rushing yards per game which is good enough for 11th in the nation. This running game is legitimate and will cause some issues for this Ball State defense. The Panthers will look to expose this Ball State rush defense which gives up nearly 170 rushing yards per game. Georgia State will look to control the tempo and will try to keep Ball State’s defense on the field for the majority of this game.

Ball State

Ball State has lost three out of their last five games. The Cardinals are a middle of the table team in their own conference. They won’t wow you with any of their offense, but they have a consistency due to their starting quarterback Drew Plitt. Plitt has thrown 2,248 passing yards this season to go along with a touchdown/interception ratio of 17/5. They also have a solid running game, and it starts with Carson Steele who averages 4.7 yards per carry. This Ball State offense has scored more than 17 points per game in every game since the beginning of October.

This Ball State defense is not good. They are ranked 195th in total yards allowed per game, 200th in passing yards allowed per game, and 198th in points allowed per game. This team is average and nothing more than that. They will need to get this passing attack going and try and get up early so Georgia State has to throw the football. Other than that, I am really not sure about the Ball State Cardinals.

Prediction:

Georgia State is a six-point favorite with the over/under set at 51. I would lean with the over here, Ball State’s defense is Swiss cheese and Georgia State will put up a ton of points. My official play is Georgia State -6. This is a two unit play for me as I am very confident in this one. Georgia State is a wagon, and they have played tougher competition, so I am not even remotely worried about them covering in this one.
